    Hi wasblind

Is cult a word that can be applied just by the opinion of the people involved of what is a cult? If I said in my opinion the bristish legion was cult would that make my opinion count.

Is cult a word that redefined from person to person?

it is a cult when the member is welcomed back to carry on his abuse while elders/Branch Staff/CO's and your GB do nothing, still your own GB have had filthy vile abusers amongst them as well, Leo Greenleas raped young boys in his very room at Bethel for many years.

    Yea jook,

what is also sad is that the WT veiws the net as the devil, so most

witnesses may not even take the time to look up these sexual preds.

This organization protects these preverts better than any I have ever

seen it a haven for them . I watched a TV show that begins with "O"

yesterday about sexual abuse and it totally destroyed this family

and their lives for years to come they are still realing from the effects.

Debator: Now we are getting somewhere. "My definition of Cult is when it is established as a cult by the human-rights organisation". Disregard my previous question and consider this instead: Which groups can you then point to that actually are cults?

I cant think of any, according to your definition.

Personally, i think what constitute a cult should be established by the fields of science which touch the question, eg. psychology and sociology. You, apparently, think its a leagal question - i do wonder if the european court ruled JW was a cult tomorrow you would accept that at face value, or make up another definition.

Are you false prophecying by your own standard? Witnesses are a cult because you say "governments will think they are a cult at some vague future time"?

My reply: I am predicting that awareness will open the eyes of governments toward this small and unimportant-in-the-world's eyes cult, yes. It is my feelings, which could be right or wrong...but I am not calling it the Creator's promise that it will happen.

Witnesses are a cult because they had a pedophile member? I know of a parent and teacher who was a pedophile does that make the Parent, Teacher association a cult?

My reply: Witnesses are a cult, independent of their pedophile problem. Their pedo problem is just another of their many problems and scandals.

    Reniaa said:

Circular reasoning! you say they have more in common with scientology? by whose opinion? the same steve hassan book that you are cold-reading witnesses into using biased information?

My reply: I have never read Hassan's books so can't comment.

    Hi bohm

My definition of Cult is when it is established as a cult by the human-rights organisation. But Witnesses have been upheld as a religion by the European human rights court and it doesn't get any higher than that in the world.

My reply: It remains to be seen how the EHRC will see the JWs as awareness and education rise and former members speak out.

    Reniaa siad:

It says a lot when the world itself doesn't call us a cult but those that hate us do.

My reply: Exactly. it shows how insignificant JWs are to the world and how very little is known about them- a sign of a cult.

    Reniaa said:

In this case we are indeed following Jesus's example when the jews vilified him in their hatred and even Pontious pilate knew he was innocent of the crime they were trying to convict him of.

My reply: Only in your deluded dreams Reniaa.

    My reply:

Reniaa said: The world knows Witnesses are innocent of this title you are trying to hang on us in your bitter hatred.

My reply: Untrue. The world is, on the whole, ignorant of the true nature of the org. The ones who know the org know it is a cult.

    Hi poppers

I am not saying a Christian faith cannot be a cult but simply that scientology could be a raving monster loony party but they have absolutely nothing in common with witnesses and so there is no point in discussing whether they are a cult or not.

but personally I think with scientologists the issue is more of whether they are actually a religion more than whether they are a cult.

Here is a court case where the ECHR ruled in favor of Scientology.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_and_the_legal_system#Cases_before_the_European_Court_of_Human_Rights

It appear, folks, scientology is not a cult.

Is cult a word that redefined from person to person?

    Hi debator,

well the word cult derives from the word culture, so any type of

group could be called one, but most people associate the word cult

with the negative, like separation, control, the potental for harm

the WTS has a record for all of this

Debator - The european court of human rights have ruled specifically that Scientology IS a religion and by your definition of what constitute a cult, they are NOT a cult. You got to stick with that. It would also be very strange if you didnt admit they was a religion when the ECHR has upheld them as such.

Now, Can you come up with a group that, according to your definition, is a cult?

    I agree with Bohm,

when the human rights view you as a cult,

that's a red flag. Evidently they see Basic human

    rights in jepardy
