I've never given a gift, birthday or otherwise that I did not enjoy giving, and I don't think I've never gotten one that didn't feel like it was given in love and with joy. For most of my friends a simple birthday greeting is all that is wanted or needed. So one day out of the year my friends say "Happy birthday" and my husband takes me out to dinner and buys me a trinket. It's simple human connection and bonding. I also give (and get) gifts throughout the year. If that takes anything away from God or makes me pagan, so be it. I don't buy the logic, never did, never will.

I used to have "present day" for my kids, because I like celebrations and fun and I didn't want them to feel like they were missing out on anything. It was no big deal, a few (very few) wrapped gifts, a little crepe paper and baloons. I was critisized for that. I guess I could give gifts if they weren't wrapped? Or maybe it was the baloons? Not sure what made it wrong, it just amazed me that soneone could nitpick on me for that.

the Bible doesn't mention birthdays.. but it does "mention' this..

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days :

    Any more questions ????

"21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons"

Debator what is this drinking the cup of the Lord?

    Hi Lisa rose

    If someone said

"I did a celebration to Baal today, My mum and dad got together with us, we made sure all the kids enjoyed it and had presents. Little johnny got to be the "sacrifice" and he liked having the pretend flames painted on him. while we all chanted to Baal"

The point is however cute and cuddly we make a celebration, however much we try and whitewash it or tag it. It still remains a pagan celebration we should avoid as per Bible principle. That is why early Christian didn't do birthdays or Saturnalia.

    hi caliber

That is specifically about Jewish celebrations not Pagan ones. Recognition that it would take time for Christian jews to adjust especially with the sabbath.

Like the English poet William Ernest Henley wrote 'I am the master of my fate, the captain of my soul.'.

    Invictus my dear Invictus

The Bible covers the Early to Late Bronze Age notions of humanity, socialization, culture and world view. Important historically and anthropologically but its better ideas like the golden rule ( started by Rabbi Hillel not Jesus) have there place in civilization, its other ideas like slavery have been rejected by all civilized cultures.

So yes I am the master of my fate and the captain of my soul. The trees I planted in my 20s are now over 40 years old, they very well could be here for centuries so my gratification is in the centuries to come. That is a truer sense of my place in time than the self-loathing taught in Scripture and other earlier religions. My Jewish roots knew about change it seems my Christian ties are still dug in with the age of fear and superstition about God.

September 22, 2003, Awake!, page 24, 'The Piñata - An Ancient Tradition':

"We found that for many people in Mexico, the piñata has lost its religious significance and is considered by most to be just harmless fun...A main concern is, not what the practice meant hundreds of years ago, but how it is viewed today in your area. Understandably, opinions may vary from one place to another. Hence, it is wise to avoid turning such matters into big issues

    Outlaw says -

Good point Outlaw here we have a self proclaimed JW going exactly in opposition to the WTS stance of their devoted followers, to not

come to or making comments on apostate web sites. This is probably the biggest and longest operating apostate web site in the world !

The height of this person's hypocrisy is notably incredulous.
