I think Dan is going through a very hard time, and what he has posted which is judgemental is a way for him to cope. Its a turn off, yes, and saying "It's not enough to live a good life and be good to people" is very fucked up. However I think, hopefully after things calm down he'll chill out a bit.

I hate to see people become extreme one way or the other, whether its extreme christian, or extreme atheist, or any viewpoint that in essance makes you judge another person as stupid for beliving in God, or damned for not believing in God.

I say this after about 2 years of researching all this shit, and what it comes down to is this:

(I know this will rub some people the wrong way and Im sorry, I mean no disrespect, this is simply my opinion)

When we get down to the nitty gritty, and we are being totally, and I mean totally honest with ourselves, getting to the very core layer of ourselves, the reality is no one really knows what the fuck the "truth" is.

We each have our best guess, our strongest leaning, and we go with that. And hopefully we come out with a more balanced viewpoint than we did when we were JW's, whether we are christian, atheist, or whatever.

I like to think for every dan, there is a PSacramento and LeavingWT. Those are 2 people on 2 different sides of the debate/discussion, but they are almost always respectful and reasonable and dont come off judgmental.

I think dan will come around, so until then I'll just chalk it up to yet another person proclaiming me damned to hell for not believing exactly as they do.

While he is damning athiests, I think he would considered alot of christians damned too. Seems like only a small handful of people would measure up to his standards, er, oops, sorry I mean "God's" standards, since what he is saying isnt from men, its from God. hmmm I think I've heard that somewhere before. ;)

Dan you need to chill my freind. You've been going through alot of stress these past few months.

Why don't you give yourself some time off these forums/blogs and dedicate some time to you and your family.

Take a few months off religion and trying to "Save" us poor souls. Then when things are a little better and you've recharged your batteries come back and say hi.

I'm sure we'll all laugh it off.

Alright, Brother Dan. Take a deep breath and a long pause, days if necessary.

But just come back if you want to. You don't have to put your tail between your legs or say that you had a calling to come back to JWN.
If you don't want to come back, fine also.

I have taken lots of breaks, but never say goodbye because something will drag me back. This lurking will kill you. One of us is bound to get your goat to cause you to post again.

    Here, let me try:

Deep down all we truly have are our opinions and beliefs and just like everyone else, we want them respected.

We need to realize that itis a two way street.

But I will say this, Christianity teachs us to love and have compassion and be tolerant and non-judgmental of others, when we are the opposite of that, we are becoming the "stumbling blocks" that Christ warned us not to be.

The lack fo love and compassion and too much judgment and intolerance is a sign of not enought Christ, not a sign of too much.

Christ sure taught that, I don't know about the Chistians though.

That is just it, Christ is the ideal to strive for, "be perfect as your father is perfect" Christ said.

When we are not "perfect" then it is a case of not enough Christ in Us ( not enough love, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness, etc).

The saying that the church is a hospital for sinners and not a museum of Saints is a very true one.

Christians should remember that we are NOT qualified to judge or to decide whi is righteous or not, that is the providence of God and Jesus.

Someone said that "being good isn't enough", well, to that I say this:

Being good for no other reason than being good is the very essence of Grace ( acts of love with not thought of receompense) and to not forget the words of Jesus whne he said that many will call him "Lord" but he will not know them.
