You very well may be in Kindergarten...

Excellent retort Coffee. You win. Climate Change is a hoax.

You are the one who dismisses other viewpoints with silly retorts...just giving you a little bit of your own medicine. Didn't you learn something from being in the borg...didn't you learn to question the status quo? Didn't you learn to have a healthy dose of skepticism?

Read Lintzen's stuff...or are you afraid to look at the other side? Are you so fixed that you can't have an open mind? Or does having an open mind mean that one has to agree with you? If someone says he's a contrarian...does that give you cause to dismiss everything he says? Seriously? Einstein was a contrarian. Some of the greatest minds in the history of the world have been contrarians...

    Liberty83:

And what does any of what you said have to do with CO2 in the atmosphere? Are we to simultaneously assume that a) CO2 is unable to diffuse at some relatively even level throughout the entire atmosphere in the same way that any soluble compound will do in a fluid, and b) that even though it is unable to diffuse throughout the atmosphere, it somehow travels very, very far from its source of origin?

Diffusion obviously happens but is totally irrelevant to why Global Warming has concentrated in the Arctic. It used to be 3-5 degrees Fahrenheit higher than average up there. Now, that is escalating for reasons that does not have to do with more Carbon Dioxide anywhere but has to do with the change in color from white ice (Which reflects 80-90% of sunlight) to dark blue open waters, (Which absorbs 80% of sunlight).

And even then, of what relevance is the fact that the arctic is "warmer than normal"? The arctic temps are still WELL below the freezing point of water...

I indicated a chain of causation in which a shrinking ice cap; which was keeping temnperatures colder than what they would otherwise be because of the ice reflecting sunlight; is exposing more and more dark blue ocean water which absorbs sunlight -> getting warmer -> melting even more ice. The freshly exposed waters can get up to 6F warmer in summer

This causes the waters at the edge of the Arctic to keep from freezing (completely) during winter and instead they release heat up into the air (Warm air rises, cold air sinks).

When the warmer than usual air rises, it pushes the frigid polar air above it to the only place it can go. Southwards. Warmer water also evaporates more releasing more humidity into the air. This increase in humidity turns into more precipitation, whether it be snow or rain.

The whole world has been getting more humid for years because of the increase in warmth in all oceans (About 1F in non Arctic seas) This has been giving us more intense rains not just due to the increase humidity but because warmer air gives more energy to storms. The recent floods in Australia and Brazil were preceeded by higher sea temperatures right next to those countries.

Seriously? So you didn't notice the opening post? Or Burns comment on the internet? VIII's "Al Gore is so hawt" comment? You see it's this kind of selective reading that makes me question your desire for honest conversation on the topic. Which the majority of scientists around the world agree on to at least some extent.

What exactly makes you think I haven't read on this subject? Merely the fact that you don't agree with my view? Look to your own rafter. Where is your own skepticism? Or is that only relevant to those who have an opposing viewpoint?

    Coffee_black: "Read Lintzen's stuff..."

First off coffee, it is Lindzen with a d. Second, if you have bothered to read websites like www.skepticalscience.com you will find that his articles are invariably wrong and always shot down on methodology by other scientists. Example:

    http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2007/04/lindzen-in-newsweek/

If you care to look deeper into Richard Lindzen you will find that he displays the basic traits that anti Global Warming cranks have in common. He's a fundamentalist Christian and a Conservative. He's the type of person who says that Exxon Mobil is a disciplined company.

People like him make up the 3% of climate scientists who cling to their ideas that man made Global Warming is part of some diabolical master plan to subjugate Christianity, Patriotism and apple pie. There will always be an irreducible minimum of quack scientists and cranks like the physicist who denied E=MC2; the geologist who denied continental drift etc.

People like Lindzen basically prostitute their profession to their ideology.

I'm sure you have read on this subject, but I seriously doubt you've read Lintzen... Have you? I have read a lot on all sides of the issue. After all I've read thus far, I think that Lintzen has a reasonable viewpoint. I have exchanged emails with him a while back.... good guy.

Your kindergarten post was just after the video posted by Robdar. Due to the placement of your post, I thought you were commenting on that....and the fact that you had made previous posts on this thread, without referencing Burns or the opening post. Yes, I have read the whole thread...and no, as I said on my first post on the thread, I'm not going to get into an emotional debate here. Too much serious stuff going on in my life to get riled up about this subject. I posted the links, because there are several of Lintzen's lectures on one link, and his testimony on the other that I thought some would find interesting.

You are right Villaboo about the spelling... mental block... or maybe I need new glasses... long day

Do you remember when you left the borg... didn't current jws try to discredit you? They did me...especially when I had a personal story that made them look bad.... When one questions the status quo...one is villified. If MIT didn't think he was qualified... he wouldn't be a professor there. Period. MIT has extremely high standards, and an exemplary reputation. On the second link I posted... if you go to the first page, you will find his email address. Read his testimony then email him. I'll bet you will get a response.

I've heard his lectures... had correspondence with him... he is not the flake you seem to think he is.

Sometimes a small percentage of people get it right. The majority can be wrong. Look at history.

Coffee Who is going to try to go to sleep now.

Love it Robdar! New light revisited!!

Thanks, Coffee. I checked out the link you posted and found it to be very interesting The past hour just flew by and I plan to listen to more of it tomorrow.
