Also, whether they know it or not, they have Watchtower blinders on.

BTS, I'm not sure if I'm included in this generalization but I'd like to offer that my WT blinders came off a few years ago only to expose my Bible blinders. Later, I realized if I was going to invest myself in any particular faith, I needed to strip all childhood presuppositions off and start over from scratch. I approached belief as though my mind had been wiped free of religion, like a fresh OS install.

In doing so, I found no reason to accept anything the Bible had to say as being of divine origin.

Could leftover fragments of old black and white WT ideology have corrupted my reasoning? That's a possibilty. But the most basic logic tells me that a superhuman, omni-everything god should be capable of conveying his message clearly, transcending time and language barriers without room for contrasting metaphorical interpretations.

Clear communication does not seem to be the Bible's strong suite when you consider tens of thousands of denominations exist, all of which cannot be right.

Anyone who believes in literal Biblical or their holy book's interpretations, and feels that gives them the right to literally interpret commands and demands from their God to do all things, including things unacceptable in the modern world like eradicate "God's Enemies".

In Matthew 5:17-20 Jesus makes it clear that he has come to fullil the Law and the Prophets, not JUSt the Law mind you, the Law and the Prophets.

Of course He doesn't mention what Law, the original 10 or the 600+ added on later by Man, of course that he mentiones Commandments makes one assume he means the big 10 and in Christ they have been fullfilled. Once a law and a prohetic vision has been fullfilled does it stop being applicable?

Well, one assumes that a prophecy, once fullfilled is no longer unfullfilled right, but a Law is more "complex", but Jesus does say that the

8 For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.

But he also says that he has coem to do just that, accomplish/fullfill te Law, and then what doe she go on to say:

He goes on to expand and go beyond the law with:

21 “You have heard that it was said to the men of old, ‘You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be liable to the hell of fire.

27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

31 “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32 But I say to you that every one who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

33 “Again you have heard that it was said to the men of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’ 34 But I say to you, Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; 40 and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; 41 and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you.

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

    So what does that mean?

That Jesus fullfilled the Law and the prophecies of the OT and gave unto us a new revelation from them, a progressive revelation that was the TRUE Word of God, not filtered through Man, but direct from His Word.

    But did It stop there?

Nope, to this day the Word of God reveals itself to Us via the Universe, via the HS, Via the Bible ( yes still) and via Love.

Those here that think that you are either Sola Scriptura or hypocritical have a very narrow and inaccurate perception. It is conditioned by their Watchtower past. It is a false dichotomy. It shows a dim understanding of Christianity in its totality.

On the contrary, I feel it's a perfect understanding of the mental gymnastics and biblical cherrypicking that it takes to actually remain a Christian if you want to have anything to do with the bible at all. Just toss out all the bits that make you uncomfortable, interpret the parts that don't make sense as metaphors, and feel warm and fuzzy about all the stuff Jesus said....and voila!!! you are an enlightened Christian.

Joining the likes of Augustine and Aguinas and others,

That outlook is also what keeps us "cherry pickers" from being close minded, intolerant, egotistical, arrogant and also free of cults like the JW's.

Maybe you shouldn't look down on it.

    Just saying. ;)

On the one hand it's admirable because you're good people who are basically atheists who have invented your own church for your own selves and still want to believe in sweet baby Jesus. Which is totally cool. On the other hand it makes you impossible to talk with on things like theology, because your theology is an amorphous blob of things you've cherry-picked to believe because they make you feel good. When a topic about Christian dogma comes up and freethinkers find themselves alternately discussing with the Church of PSac, the Church of Perry, the Church of BTS, the Church of Tammy (none of which can agree on even the most basic of doctrines), they feel like they're trying to nail down a piece of silly putty.
