Well I can see why the lord would show himself in poker hands, as opposed to ending the suffering of children......................
A perfectly valid point.

I haven't read through the thread; has Sabs gotten specific anywhere in this thread about the things he so vaguely described in his first post?
Not yet, tomorrow I will post more information about the occurence. I can see I need to go into more detail.

So get this…I can now add my own "religious" experience to this thread. When grabbing my copy of The End of Faith to find that quote above I was thinking of….guess what?! The first page I opened to was the EXACT page I was looking for! A miracle? Did a supernatural being guide my hand? Nope. Random coincidence.
1 in how ever many pages there are in that book. The occurance I witnessed has astronomical odds.

Maybe you'll need to sleep here tonight, Sab...

Sab, first off, I too am a semi pro poker player, so good to see more of us out there. do you play online? im looking to get a pokerstars home game going. but that is a side point.
its hard to gauge how improbable your hands were, would you say it was more improbably than getting delt pocket aces 5 times in a row? or hitting back to back royals?
Welcome to the world of sharing your extraordinary experiences and insights on JWD, Sab. You will quickly learn that to share here is to feed the atheist trolls.
You see, when someone has an experience that can't be verified by the five physical senses, or even if it can but the trolls were not there to see it, the trolls quickly proclaim that that person is crazy or living in a dream world. The trolls, for whatever reason, are deprived of intuition and cannot fathom that humans may possibly not be the highest form of intelligence in the universe, or that there may be more in this world than that which can be touched, eaten, smelled, heard, seen, or fucked. When someone dares to connect the dots and feels they have discovered something higher than body and ego, the trolls become incensed.
Pity them.
It's called Synchronicity Sab. It's a product of our powerful human consciousness.
First, I have to exhaust all possible reasonable explanations or find one that fits.

new light- It seems to me that many on this thread are trying to help Sab to do just that. I'm not sure how that fits the definition of trolling, or how name-calling becomes justified. Personally I have a ton of respect for Sab, and am happy to offer my take on his experience.
Sab, I only read page one, so if you've answered this I'll go back and look, but what makes you call the experience "religious?"
I would call it a spiritual experience but keep religion out of it.
I have had a personal experience that helped convince me that something other than my conscious self exists. I refuse to name it, externalize it, or try to fit it in with other preconceptions of "god" though. As some have mentioned, it could be my own subconscious, it could be that we're connected to others in some way, it could be we can communicate with other non-humans in some way, it could be simply the Tao that flows through everything. I don't know. I'm not making any assumptions though. Pending further information it is a mystery, but I am confident that it is perfectly natural.
keeping an open mind, have you tried to calculate the probability of the event? perhaps you can estimate it... i know nothing of poker, mind, but i suppose a "special hand" is like 4 or 5 particular cards drawn from the stack?
I am going work on a post of the math so all you 1:100 people can stop using that argument :)
