Is "Kingdumb Hall" really an offensive term?

The difficulty with bluntly saying how you perceive things, however honest you're being, is it greatly lowers your odds of prevailing in a discussion. Again, what is your purpose? Ignorant people do not know they are ignorant. Why? Because they are ignorant. If you tell them they are ignorant, they will be offended, they will not believe you, they will disrespect you and what you are saying and they will not be the least bit inclined to listen. If you tell them that you respect them as individuals but perceive problems with some of what they are representing you just might get them to listen to you. My perspective on how best to undermine the Watchtower is still evolving, but I long ago decided that attacking the individual Jehovah's Witness was not going to be effective.

Nickolas: Ignorant people do not know they are ignorant. Why? Because they are ignorant.
Sounds like the Dunning-Kruger effect . I worry that I suffer from that and I'm just in denial. Seriously, researching cognitive biases can make a person lose self-confidence.
Of course, sometimes I also worry that my physical body is really in an insane asylum somewhere and I just think this is reality. :-D After all, what crazy person knows they're crazy? (Some philosopher already suggested that I think...)

I wasn't familiar with the Dunning-Kruger effect, so thank you for contributing to my ongoing education, SBC. I visited the link provided and left with a kernel of a proposition that all of us suffer from it. The older I get and the more I learn the more I realise how ignorant I am.

Mockery is immature, lowbrow and ineffective as an instrument of persuasion.
That may be, but as an instrument of catharsis, it is extremely effective. Witness the cartooning and lampooning of Qadhafi by those no longer held in his grip. Why? Because for the first time since getting out from under his tyranny, THEY CAN! Same situation for myself ergo the WBTS; while I don't actually use those terms except among kindred folk, just reading them daily on this website is extremely liberating/cathartic and adds to my overall feeling of well-being.

When I first starting reading the board these expressions made me uncomfortable but I could see the wit and truth in the words. It is actually a way of seeing yourself as others see you and it did shake me up a bit. But it also made me think. I know that for others there aposta radar gets going and they turn and run but then they also may not be at their own personal tipping point and nicely worded arguments against the watchtower could also have the same effect.

Goes to our individual motives for being here, I suppose, MJNM. Qadhafi's going to either blow his own brains out or get lynched. He is an evil individual and is the ultimate focus of the hatred of the people he has oppressed. The individual Jehovah's Witness is not in the same league, although the organisation that exercises so much control over him may very well be.
My wife's a Jehovah's Witness. An intelligent Jehovah's Witness. She skipped two grades, in fact, one in elementary school and the other in high school. She was the youngest student in the University we both attended and she graduated cum laude with an honours bachelor's degree. In terms of intelligence, she's 95th percentile. She's no witless, as much as she has been hoodwinked by the WTBTS. If you were to speak to her with mockery, she could if she wished cut you into ribbons and you wouldn't even notice. You would not experience catharsis.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is specially shown in Jehovah's Witnesses with regards to Biblical Knowledge.

An intelligent Jehovah's Witness
Its a paradox. Someone with that level of intelligence when showed the mistake they are in will take steps to correct it. Intelligence is the ability to use knowledge in a practical way.
My Mom is intelligent...but she is a JW, therefore she is not that intelligent.... Can you REASON with them? Can they TEST their knowldege? Can they hear condratictory staments? Can they have an honest debate open to the idea of being wrong? Can they admin they dont have ceirtainty? So where exactly is the intelligence?

these expressions made me uncomfortable
Exactly, those expressions make people uncomfortable, they make you feel bad.... Your mouth stinks will allways make me feel bad... but it will make me take action immediately.. with no hesitation....
Try an experiment... take a mint in front of someone with bad breath say to them "would you like a mint" see how many people take it......
Now whisper to someone, "your breath stinks" and pulll the mint box..... see how many take it, and how many say "thank you" you will be surprised.
