Was it an evil cackle, though?

I didn't get mad. I laughed. Then asked him to give details about his ideals. Just clearing that up.

I've noticed that being general generally pisses people off.

It pisses off a certain type of people, the type of which I won't get into here......... Aw hell, why not? I'll go there. They're called hypocrites...

Everyone generalizes. So using the "your generalizing" argument and leaving it at that makes for poor discussion. That said, prejudice and hate are the extremes of generalization and have an ugly past and present.

Atheists generalize about theists. Theists generalize about atheists. Both sides get mad at the other side for doing what they, themselves, do.
And we know it doesn't end there. That can be extended to any form of group, be it race, nationality, political leanings, even products we use. Negative aspect of human nature.

Sab - believers are like land-based telescopes. - requires error-correction from earth's atmosphere
Non-believers are more like orbiting telescopes. -can focus more of their time on the unknown(without the error-correction that ground telescopes have to deal with)
believers are equal to galileo in his youth with a looking glass the power of your average reading glasses
non-believers the hubble telescope
