Use the oil sands, they are here today and gone tomorrow, and so are we. It's as green as whatever you like to think. The dollar is the king. Everything else can be green-washed. They say we are creating a world for our grand children. But we are the grand children and just look at this depleated world our grand parents left us.

    Designs,

The oil-sands are ugly, or at least the handful of open pit mines are. We've all seen the pictures. They've been the subject of dramatic photo shoots which have become a staple in the letters of fundraisers for every enviromnetal group.

Oil sands porn sells magazines and gets donations, but it is not a substitute for serious discussion about the pros and cons of oil-sands oil compared to OPEC oil.

Like ballistic, you have completely missed my point. I dont' think either of you actually read my post before commenting.

OMG! Where in that, did I say the oil-sands were "green"??

I'm asking you to compare the ethics of the Canadian oil-sands to other oil-producing countries - countries that don't allow National Geographic or any other journalist free rein to report on them or their behaviour.

No not green, kinda oil coloured. I didn't read your whole post because I don't have a very good attention span although when I was growing up they didn't give you a name of an illness like attention deficiet. And stop taking everything to heart dear.

Because you didn't read the post, your comments are implying that I am against researching and using alternative sources of fuel.

I am most certainly NOT against that.

Jesus, I've got this really annoying "Date Christain Girls" ad in the corner of every screen - it's really off-putting.

Imagine what we could do if we got together on this, ball-sy.

China and the US have signed long term contracts with Canada for the Oil-Sands, China invested heavily in Encana I believe to run pipes to the West Coast of Canada and then ship to China. So its here to stay for decades to come. We can make personal choices not to use a particular Refiners products if its blended with Oil-Sands products. And we can protest ala Daryl Hannah and use political pressure. And I hope they have a descent version of the EPA in Canada. I fear like in the Dakotas where Fracking is used for natural Gas extraction pristine aquifers will be polluted and once polluted they are history.

Will our views of OPEC change as more countries within that group become Democratic, will we feel we are supporting our enemies. Could monetary starvation make these fragile Democracirs collaspe and fall to dictators again.

This is our generation's delimma to solve.

Our's is miles ahead of the US's.

We can make personal choices not to use a particular Refiners products if its blended with Oil-Sands products.

    My point is:

Why are you protesting Canada's oil? This thread is not about the environmental impact of oil production. I repeat, NOT about the environment.

My point is that at this moment in time, the US is not going to stop consuming oil. Where do you want it to come from - Canada or Saudi Arabia?
