Just a quick update.
I started adjunctive chemo last Friday. Same drugs as I had back in Dec/Jan. By Sunday I was feeling sick and woke up Monday feeling really grim with what I thought was severe indigestion. Up all night Monday being sick so I phoned my onco nurse Tuesday morning and she told me to stop taking the chemo and gave me an appointment to see the onco on Friday.
He advised reducing the dose slightly and trying a different anti-emetic. So I was happy to go along with that and I mentioned to him about the indigestion. He asked me some more questions about it and told me it wasn't indigestion it was a rare side-effect that causes the aorta to have spasms and that I will probably have a heart attack if I keep taking the chemo. There is nothing wrong with my heart and the symptoms stopped as soon as I came off chemo.
As usual you only think about other questions after you leave the consultation. I phoned my cancer nurse for a chat yestarday and she gave me a reality check. Four out of ten people in my situation are now clear of cancer folllowing a successful operation. Cancer will recur in the other six cases. That can be reduced to 50:50 with adjunctive chemo but for me that's not an option. So now its wait and watch.
Good news is I don't spend all summer feeling ill.
