There is a lot of fraud in defense spending. My son in law was a chief on a couple of different Navy nuclear submarines. He was given a budget for maintenance of the boat. They were not supposed to go to Wal-mart or the hardware store to buy things like nails or screws or even ordinary toilet seats. They had to buy indentical nails and screws, toilet seats for many times the normal prices, from companies with defense contracts. A screw that might cost pennies at the hardware store could cost a boat $30 from the contract company. An identical screw and the same brand. So, since this kind of fraud costs tax payers millions, why don't we just shut down the military?

He just seeks to inflame, he never really makes any point.

Wasn't there a rumor that Dude draws welfare and shops at Wal-mart in his underwear, without his toupe'?

There is no straw man in my comment. I did not act like anything. As usual, you argue past what is written. You do this very often, and it makes it very difficult to have a discussion with you, which is a shame. You seem very intelligent otherwise.

It was clearly a straw man argument. Nobody here was arguing in favor of fraud, yet your comments went on and on and....on about fraud. The original position was that welfare does not make one rich. You defaulted to fraud can make one rich. Yes, but welfare does not make one rich. You continued to post about fraud without ever refuting that welfare makes one rich.

A straw man is a component of an argument and is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position, twisting his words or by means of [false] assumptions. [1] To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by replacing it with a superficially similar yet unequivalent proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position. [1] [2] Generally, the straw man is a highly exaggerated [citation needed] or over-simplified version of the opponent's original statement, which has been distorted to the point of absurdity. This exaggerated or distorted statement is thus easily argued against, but is a misrepresentation of the opponent's actual statement.

I know people abuse entitelement programs on a large scale.

    Third post:

BandOnTheRun - I have to agree with you.
I know there are girls who just go to the local nightclub and get pregnant to get welfare to provide housing, which I'm not pleased about

    Fifth post:

    I wouldn't say "Nobody".

But that doesn't make an intriguing photo! Plus, it takes too many words. You will need to come up with a 2 to 4 word term that tickles prejudice and acts as a dog whistle. Maybe then people will feel outrage.

Nobody says they are all on welfare Shelby. It's typical Dude.

I know, dear NC (peace to you, dear one!). I was "playing dumb" for dear Dude's (peace, as well!) sake - . You know, trying to get HIM to maybe "think". 'Cause I didn't get the impression he does much of that... ( again).

A screw that might cost pennies at the hardware store could cost a boat $30 from the contract company.

To say nothing of one Tylenol tablet in the hospital, dear FHN (peace to you, as well, my dear!). Were $6-$8 each for one tablet back when my son was in the ICU (19 years ago). Can't imagine what they might be now (got Kaiser, so no longer see itemized bills...).

Sure, the military knows it's paying... what was it, $300 for a hammer... $600 for a toilet seat? And the insurance company knows it's paying $12 for a Tylenol caplet. It's those who PAY for this stuff initially... the tax and premium payers... who don't know. Fraud... and abuse of funds... occurs everywhere in our society, make no mistake. Only a fool would think differently and single out one area...

    Peace, ladies!

According to my son in law, it's very hard to run a boat when you have to pay $30 for every screw. Lol. He said they often sneak to Wal-mart to buy some of the things they need.

Why did this woman produce 15 kids when she does not have enough money to provide for their needs?

So many teenaged girls are getting pregnant. My own relative, her best friend, and alot of gals in her high school, all pregnant. Her mother, grandmother, and me ALL begged her to get on birth control and offered her an absolute, "no questions" and trip to the doctor. We tried to make it an absolutely, no shame, you are taking care of yourself, attituted about going to the ob/gyn and getting on prevention. BUT, SHE REFUSED TO GO. Now, she's pregnant, on food stamps, government health care, living assistance, etc. When the baby is born, she is goign to get free child care and tuition help too. Full-time infant child care is about $800 a month. If she plays her cards right, she'll get a degree without a student loan. But, I don't think she's got the "stick-to-it" to get through college. Having a baby, they think, is a scholarship program. Of course, the dads all leave. I love the last one I heard, my relative's boyfriend broke up with her a few weeks ago & said "Oh, but can we still be friends?" She ain't even 7 months. Of course, he's been offered jobs but will not accept them. And, she WILL NOT hear of putting the baby up for adoption. Ever see MTV's, "16 & Pregnant"? I have it the SAME thing happening.

The parents/grandparents better get ready to raise this one too. The number of parents raising grandchildren is skyrocketing. As another thread showed, if the grandparents adopt the baby, then it qualifies for additional social security.

Fatherlessness and the "Madonna/Celebrity" having babies out of wedlock is making this more prominent. Fathers are super important. The one common denominator of most of the people in prison is, "wasn't raised with a father." It's usually the white girls that are doing this.

Every great society destroys itself with its own overindulgence. Welfare mothers havig mulitple children and teenaged mothers is one way this happens. Our system rewards homes with pregnant women, and women stay pregnant to reap the benefits. I know of one woman who has yearly babies, and gives them ALL to adoption. The government is paying for her home, food, etc. to be a baby factory.

This just burns me up. These women have babies for their own needs, and put the children through a life of poverty. There is a reason why Haiti is Haiti. In Italy, the birth rate had dropped. Italian women realize the work and sacrifice it takes to raise a baby. If they can't do it, they closed their knees.
