Ugh - the monarchy. Well, from this Canadian's point of view, I just don't get why we give them money. They are an old, inbred family of 'monarchs',,, huh? ,,,, in a world that has passed them by.
Let's not forget that the 'Royal Family' were Nazi sympathizers, please! It's time they faded AWAY.

Our monarchy brings stability and continuity, and is the envy of the civilized world.
Our Queen is dignified and competent, and lets the parliamentarians get on with their important work of legislating without any interference on her part, which is exactly how it should be.

The only ppl who ooh and ahhh over the monarchy are the Americans, with their over the top glorification of the monarchy. They want some stamp of 'old-world' glamour attached to their presidency, and it just .... doesn't ... work!\
THIS part of the civilzed world, cares not about the monarchy; it's just an outdated symbol of the "British Empire".

Well, obviously the Duke of Winsor who abdicated - it's common knowledge ... but what do you think of one of the prince's dressing as a Nazi for a costume party? Surely, you don't take it as a light matter.

Cofty - I think she is referring to Edward VIII. There is quite a lot of evidence to support that by all accounts and suspect more will come out over time as official secrets act time limitations expire. Side issue though. Even if he had manned gas chambers personally it would not really be of relevance to the debate. It is interesting though.

Many here, loved Princess Di - her manufactured death was akin to 'death to the monarchy'. We do still have some monarchists here in Canada, but most that I know think it is a joke and a BIG WASTE OF MONEY.

Time to leave these shores for Canada methinks. Nearly went about 10 years ago (was seriously thinking about buying a maple syrup farm in Nova Scotia) but my son came along. That and you don't play cricket.
