    HELLO!
Granted young adults will do silly things the fact that he had not by that age worked out that dressing as a Nazi would offend some people suggests to me that the Windsors are not doing a great job at instilling the diplomatic duty in the next generations.

I don't think many republicans suggest beheading, merely removal of titles and confiscation of property, wealth and artefacts that rightly belong to the people in common.

Cofty. I don't think there was any conspiracy behind Dianas death. If she wore a seatbelt she would not have died. Simple.

The hypocracy in the press though. In the weeks before she was the devil incarnate for, lets face it, dating a muslim. When she died it was saint Di.

The whole thing that was missed was this. If any other mother had been out partying in Paris with her rich fancy man while her children had been carted off to boarding school or being looked after by the nanny and then died in an accident because she couldn't be arsed putting a seatbelt on in her limo I would suggest there may have been more raised eyebrows than weepy eyes. And I don't blame the press. She courted them when she wanted the publicity.

James - Their lives as students were not micro-managed by the place. He was an idiot to dress up in that way but parody is not the same as sympathy. Don't forget his mum died when he was very young and he was brought up by a dad who is as mad as a box of frogs. I have no concerns about how Harry and William have turned out.

I think the Queen is exceptional. I'm not enthusiastic about Charles becoming monarch.

Oh I don't know slim, a good beheading beats having to watch Eastenders. I thought I would have had at least one post along the lines of

"We tried a republic once. And they banned Christmas"

Dennis: What I object to is you automatically treat me like an inferior.
King Arthur: Well I am king.
Dennis: Oh, king eh? Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society.

And, yeah, your republic did ban Christmas. What about that?

Children (young adults, okay then! then he's making his OWN choices) do what they learn .... if you want to excuse this action due to youthful folly, so be it. I think your head is in the sand. Come on, dressing up like a Nazi?

    pfffffffffft!

and go ahead, ignore my replies ... I'm fine with that.

Cofty - but that is the whole point. Everyone I speak to (and I do mean everyone) cannot stand Charles. For whatever reason he does not understand that being a titular unelected head of state means you have to behave without fault and keep your mouth shut. He could cause serious damage to the reputation of the country and do we have any say in whether he becomes King? No.

No system of head of state selection would ever be perfect, but if you were going to order choice by meritocracy (not sure how that would work), democracy or accident of birth I don't think you would put the latter of those at the top of this list.

Mrs Windsor is 85. She may live a while longer but realistically she will have to step down in the next 5-10 years. I suspect when her husband dies. At that time I think a lot of the commonwealth will have open debates to remove her as head of state. Remember the head of the commonwealth is not a heriditary title (by Mrs Windsor's design apparently) so it does not pass to Charles automatically. There will be a lot of debate then, possibly at a time when the UK may be splitting up (which I think would be a silly idea but seems to be the way the wind is blowing). I'm optimistic it will get people thinking about these things rather than just accepting the status quo.

The queen does not have to step down, and I would be surprised if she does.
