tithing would go over like a lead ballon

I am pretty sure that 99% the "fading/closet" JWs who are staying inside the Org for friends and family (they can't bear to suffer the shunning) would quickly come out of the closet when presented with their 10% tithing bill from the KH and officially announce they have now disassociated themselves! JWs are the world's biggest cheapskates.

wasblind...I'm sure they could spin it so it seemed as if they were still in control and organized. Remember the bookstudy was a "meeting from Jehovah" and "the most important meeting of the week" ...now it's a memory.

They could throw out the spiritual warfare card! Anything can be spun positively by professional spinsters!

Isaacaustin...even with no time slips, I'm sure 'they' would keep track of our service attendance to a point, just like meeting attandance. We don't fill out attendace slips, but people know when are 'weak' in that area.

I was just speculating on things that could possibly insulate them from some lawsuits. As has been stated on the thread "follow the money"

In the past they criticized the use of credit cards in some churches and now you can see in the assemblies. I do not be surprised that the WT come with an explanation to justify tithing. Something like that in the past, the tithe was used to support the priesthood and now the anointed will be kings and priests and are in charge of the spiritual paradise we enjoy, we should bring the tithe for their livelihood, as did the people of Jehovah in the past. None of that would surprise me.

yeah, how can they get rid of time slips? i mean one of the favorite things to do is engage in self masterbatory articles about growth and how many billion hours were spent, etc. i know that they try to distance themselves from the rank and file, elders, etc, but its too late. its just not possible. the other thing i think, this is a cult, so no matter what happens its not going to be an easing up of any kind of the rank and file. i think perhaps they will do away with judicial comitees and just make it that if you get into trouble you are gone, and to balance it out make the re-instatement process shorter and easier. also they are stubborn, i think there is no chance they do away with the 2 witness rule, i think they will hold on to that until they are broke, which is what their demise could be.

If we observe the pattern of their past changes we can conclude that:

    1. They write it in paragraph 13 or 14 in a Watchtower study where 95% is old stuff. Just a couple of senteces but with a big impact in the doctrines.

    2. Then, they wait for response from witnesses. If they don't protest, they assume it as a their new doctrine.

That happened with the overlapping generation succesfully.

I think possible changes could be about doctrines (the case for the generation is a lost one, it's not credible having new annointed, etc.). Maybe the overlapping issue is just transient, a step to leave behind the importance of 1914. I don't think they will deny that but they will "forgot" in their past literature until all those who lived when it was in the foreground had died or are very old.

Other possibility is "simplification". The midweek meeting is becoming the new "bible study", and the number of the audience at least where I live is falling. Possibly one-day meeting during the week. There's also no meaning for the "public talk" since few new ones are attending. One elder told me about the possibility of having just one public talk a month. So, you'd have time to have the Watchtower Study, some Ministry School and Bible Study.

I know it's very unpredictable but before the Bible Study was ended, there was a sentiment in the congregations that this meeting would end in the future.

But whatever it happens, I don't think there will be any announcement at the next Elder's school.

You can find old "credit card" references if you have a WT-CD, which has a decent "search" feature. I recall there were several "Watching the World" blurbs on it in the 80's.
