Marking, because that was a great breakdown, CA. Some theists might also merge individual points of some of those categories, or even move between them at times.

Yeah. Many times people are constantly refining their beliefs. I think that's the way it SHOULD be.
So do we have any pantheists, polytheists, autotheists, eutheists, dystheists maltheists (id love to talk to one of these), or any other types I might have missed?
I was an open-theist for a while on my journey from faith to atheism. Greg Boyd, Clark Pinnock et al.
It seemed to be a sincere attempt to square the circle of theodicy.

I agree . . . and that's why labelling is so limited. Even in the unlikely event that it does fit . . . chances are it's temporary.
Discussing categories in an impersonal, statistical, or hypothetical context can be helpful. Applying labels to individuals on the other hand, is very subjective and ultimately futile.
Was the issue of "evil" a real issue for you, cofty?
Yeah, I was starting to notice that very thing on my "survey" thread, sizemik.
Yes it was definitely the trigger that led me to reconsider whether my faith was rational.
A church elder I knew well was killed in a senseless accident. It wasn't the accident as much as the crazy "god allowed it for a reason" response of the church that made me question.
A little while later there was the Asian tsunami. Again I examined all the responses of ordinary christians and prominent theologians and concluded it was vacuous.
That was a major issue for me but obviously there was a long period of agonising over a lot of other issues. It was like leaving the borg but in some ways more difficult.
When I left the borg I was elated with my new christian faith. Losing that and facing the reality of a godless world was not something I wanted to be true.
I'm glad to know that about you cofty... I can imagine that stopping a belief in God WOULD be harder in soooo many ways than leaving the WT... Thanks for sharing that!
