If There was a Cosmic Pain meter...

God is the cosmic pain meter because any pain that is felt in the universe is also felt by God and His Son. It's one thing to create, but it's quite another to LIVE in what you create and essentially experience what they experience.

Col 1 - 27 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Matthew 25 - 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

So, not feeding a homeless person is the same as not feeding Christ because Christ dwells within the afflicted. Therefore you can't make the argument that God doesn't care about the pain and suffering of the world. He experiences it.

That is completely pointless. Its like when a celebrity jets in to take a quick look at third world poverty accompanied by lots of media.

LOL, this question is over 2,000 years old; being asked by Epicurus and I suspect Paul was asked this question when he was in Athens- maybe the reason he left so quickly! Although our concept of god(s) has changed over the millennia, and our knowledge of the universe, and the depths of evil men are capable of; it is still a relevant question about the nature of god, or its existence (or not!)

KN: And a zygote is also the same as a child?

I agree with cofty, i think this is a completely moot point. Suppose you agreed there is a large difference between a zygote and a baby (a distinction i think is pretty easy to make, but well), would that in any way change your oppinion on late-term abortions?

Sorry to add another level to the question. I find it interesting that the suffering in the other animals isn't mentioned. Pain is built into practically all of their lives. As well, it has been shown that quite a few of the suffer psychic pain from losing another or others that they were bonded to. Elephants even make repeated visits to the bones of their fallen herd members, spending time examining those bones. I'm sure that there must be a greater amount of suffering among lower anuimals than among the human.

Good point Satanus - Animals all die of disease, parasites, starvation, predation and cold. Lets connect their suffering to the pain meter as well.

If we believe in a personal god then we are compelled to attribute some of the blame for suffering to that god. To me the idea of a personal god that has made man in his own image but not other animals is just mythology and folklore. I don't blame a personal god for suffering as it is a part of life. There are individuals who cause unnecessary suffering to humans and animal and they are to blame for their own actions.

What I ask is this - is the universe aware of itself and conscious of its existence? If a universal awareness exists that we are a part of, that would be the closest thing to a god that I can at present comprehend. It is not possible to have only joy in a physical world. Joy and pain are two sides of the same coin. If we feel we will experience both pleasure and pain. The natural world is already a wonderful and worthy expression of life on earth. It continues to do what it has always done, that is to improve and advance. Life adapts and advances, basing its progress on the experience it has accumulated.

Despite all our failings, we are as a race making progress. There is huge room for us as humans to improve but life is improving for humans. We have a long way to go, and our journey will involve suffering, but humans are brave and wonderful creatures who will meet the challenges of the future. What we experience as humans in the natural world is not a failure but a living reality that offers us the opportunity to experience life in this part of the universe.

Man must at last wake out of his millenary dream and discover his total solitude, his fundamental isolation. He must realize that, like a gypsy, he lives on the boundary of an alien world; a world that is deaf to his music, and is indifferent to his hopes as it is to his sufferings or his crimes - Jacques Monod

Bible god is like a kid who has tired of its new toy, and leaves it in the back of the closet; either that, or a malicious entity who enjoys the suffering of others.

Has life improved? Oh, for sure, for many people.

But are we 'better'? As a species? When I see the greed and avarice by which the world is run, the apathy, the wars, the torture of animals in factory farms, child soldiers, women raped the world over,,, no, we are the same as we've always been. There are the good, the bad, and the ugly. That is the human conditon, imho.

I am so jealous... why does kk and tec get so much attention?.... wah wah wah

Its obvious they are convinced they are evil sinners that need redemption through the Christ....

Dont talk bad about God... are you God? do you know what he thinks? why question him?......

    Sooooo familiar.

it might click on some heads..... but in most it just passes from one side to the other........

IT DOES NOT MATTER what great logical argument you can present.....

You dont know God. You are human, God is God and he knows everything... And dont ask me why I know.. Cuz I know cuz I know and the bible says it.
