If There was a Cosmic Pain meter...

knowsnothing: You got to admit that changing the subject to abortion is hardly very on topic, but anyway, in the interest of not ducking the question:

Why do you allow that unborn baby to die, if you can prevent it?

As i stated, obviously i dont think its morally acceptable to abort a baby. As i wrote, I dont think a fetus is a baby in the early stages of pregnancy.

You even recognize that is my position (which is why i am puzzled you will ask again, but anyway) that thats just a matter of winning by defining the terms, well, thats sort of true: If my definition is the correct one, no harm is done (we can agree i suppose), if your definition is correct, harm is done (we can agree).

but the definition need to be made. sperm is not a baby, an egg is not a baby. the line must be drawn in the sand.

so its not very fair of you to make it sound like i am unreasonable just for pointing out there is such a distinction to be made.

So do you think sperm+egg is the same as a child, morally? If a man rape a 11 year old, should we then do something to stop the pregnancy even though she might allready be pregnant?

I absolutley agree. The line gets drawn, but in cases like this, it's an opinion based decision. The distinction needs to be made, but the distinction isn't agreed upon.

Yes. The fetus is the same as a child. The other question is a hard one. I realize the consequences that having that baby would produce for the 11 year old. Potential loss of gaining education. Ill-feelings towards the baby. Not enough means to support the child.

However, we all face challenges in life, some to a much greater degree, some to less. To know that I took a life, even if the life produced in me wasn't of my choosing or my fault, would be a crushing weight too large for me to handle. I'd know I had committed a crime. It hits home, because my mother contemplated aborting me, and I understand the situation she was in. She decided to keep me, and here I am. That's all I can say.

Well this topic kind of drifted a bit.

Sorry bout that, cofty. Seeing as you didn't contribute much, it was just me 'n bohm going at it. I tried my best with it, but he bested me.

I still think we can get something out of it, though. If God indeed doesn't exist, and the choices that we can make are in our hands, how can we reduce this "Cosmic Pain" meter? What can we, as virtual gods of this planet, do? Perhaps we are gods in development...

I am sure the meter is dropping. Think about the appalling conditions you would have lived in just a couple of centuries ago. Any major improvement will be the result of scientific progress but its by no means a dead cert that we won't spoil it first.

Abundant free clean energy is not beyond the realms of possibility - just think of the possibilities that would open up.

Sure there is a lot of pain in this world we are living, so much suffering, wars, children starve to death, violence. There is no end in that, and we aren't getting better as humans...

we aren't getting better as humans...

We are getting much, much better. I am puzzled why you would think otherwise.

"Why does God permit wickedness and suffering" is often asked.

Seldom though is the other half of this painful situation presented: "why do we ignore God's solution"?

(The "unabridged gospel" or "full good news").

The Watchtower is a prime example of this strange phenomenon.

Their Bible contains roughly 152 references to "good news". Watchtower religionists claim to be "publishers of the good news".

Yet the "good news" according to Paul, Moses, Isaiah and Psalms is far removed from their hearts and lips.

Ask your favourite "gospel preaching" missionary organisation to explain the gospel in one word and be astounded. They have no idea it is a composite message (with numerous key ingredients missing from their version of this important message)!

They may say "love" - yet the gospel is not one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. They may say "Jesus" - yet the gospel is not a person.

The gospel is in essence a message about a long running cosmic-scale eternal precedent setting legal custody battle between our evil step-father and our heavenly father, with eternal life and more on offer as a free gifts to any and all who would accept these gifts instead of trying to earn, deserve or pay for them (through self-righteous legalistic, moralistic and ethnocentric religion).

Fernando - I am very familiar with the so-called gospel, I used to preach it.

God has passively ignored the suffering of humans for 200 000 years. Please connect your sermon to the question.

Cofty, I am interested to know what you preached regarding the gospel according to Moses.
