Eh...I think Scientology will always take the gold on that score. But the Governing Body sure is making a run for the silver.
If I had known the heart ache and pain that this cult
would cause to our family, I would have (1964) chase
that little old lady off our property and told her if
you ever come back I will have you arrested.
We have great suggestions, so can we agree what is
the best method. Writing letters, not a good idea, demonstration
no good.
As a former civil servant, I do think that letters matter. It costs in the range of a couple hundred dollars a letter to process (opening, reading, flagging, forwarding, responding, filing, boxing, disposing). It has more of an impact than you think.
I know when I wrote to the United Nations they pleaded with me to stop the letters, and politely asked why I didn't go to the source? (Watchtower). Because the source is untrustworthy, that is why.
But they should hear from members and former members. Why should other more reliable agencies be counted on to respond on their behalf?
Why not reach out to our families (say, the week that June Watchtower is due to be presented) and ask if they really want to follow that extreme advice?
I'm working on something involving the local community that I think will work.

For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in Heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. (Matthew 18:11-14)
Here's an idea:
Perhaps in communities all over the globe we could have a Crisis of Conscience Appreciation Day observed on roughly the day that Ray Franz was disfellowshipped (when was that?). It could focus on the great gift that people of integrity give when he or she risk all to tell their own truth and to be who they are no matter what the cost. It could express the gratitude that we have for honesty among ourselves. The forums could be simple, healing, open to all. Maybe the ones who need healing would hear. Maybe the crooked ones wouldn't be able to stop it.
Any thoughts?
Jgnat, perhaps a letter campaign should be set upon the United Nations? If they responded then they were listening. What if they received 10,000 similar letters? Why SHOULDN'T more reliable agencies be counted on to act in our behalf?
And despite the increased pressure from WT regarding DFing, a large majority are still ignoring it as always. From my perspective anyway.
Humbled, great idea. Although I would favor it being Ray Franz's birthday (May 8) just to make it extra subversive.
