I have spent time pondering things like that Simon, but without quantifiable reference points anything is possible. Sort of like string theory if you know what I mean.
Infinity and god - why wait to create the universe?

Sorry Frankie I said Simon in my last post I meant you though.

EP please read James Wood's reference above' time before THIS universe.
please google "Time before Cosmos, universe, space, whatever".
Any work involving a NATURAL firing of the big bang singularity with its energy content involves probing into the pre-big bang condition.
the "Pre" gets you into time right away.
Time dimension before space dimension is Entirely Possible,
weaving the cosmos one strand dimension at a time.

It might be easier for me to presume that there is an eternal Time dimension.
It is a language therefore logic from word thing
If you thing in French, English,
Times temps, temporary, limited. easy to see with a beginning.
For the germans and related speakers.
Time is measured by th UHR=Clock which also is the root word for the DEEP eternity,
the Lasting the Prefix for anything totally timelessly original.
Time is either eternal or it is not.
If it is, in your mind, it makes for a very good world picture
not inconsistent with ANY CURRENT observations.
We already know that there was time before the current view horizon.

Yep without provable reference points any thing is possible.

James, Gravity came with Energy/matter, the content of space that warped or tensioned it, so in my mind
Gravity did not come before time as has been suggested here.
Gravity came into warping holding the cosmic egg together like the casing of little fat man over hiroshima,
but energy trumped and still does, as we expand in our journey through time.

We do not understand this, but we respect your opinion and your freedom to say so.
EDIT - I think we may begin to understand it: You are suggesting an inflationary universe without end (to a dark loss (excuse me - a maximation) of entropy)?
I somehow do not like to think it will be that way.

“Science has a resonable answer that fits the known facts.”
If that refers to the Big Bang, scientists have conceived newer theories that threaten the idea. One problem with Big Bang is the extrapolation (since 1929) that because our universe can be measured as expanding then at one point it must have been the size of a needle-point wherein known laws of physics come unglued.
Turns out there’s a lot of space between the edges of our known universe and that needle-point, so other than extrapolating backward to that needle-point who’s to say our known universe did not start from something much larger (i.e., something between the needle-point and the current status)? I can see extrapolating contrary to the direction of expanse. But extrapolation back to the needle-point is something altogether different.
Humans are a microscopic part of the universe. Thinking in dogmatic terms about origins is a bit presumptive in my mind. I’d rather live in the here and now, love my fellow man and strive for sound thinking at all times, and learn what I can and pass it along for someone else to stand on and reach even higher. I leave it to religionists and what I term anti-religionists to whack each other around with one asserting “God created the universe” and the next saying “God did not create the universe” when the fact is neither can prove their claim.
The following tool helps readers understand that in a manner of speaking humans are, in the grand scheme of things, sophisticated bacteria: http://htwins.net/scale/

Sophisticated bacteria, Marvin? I thought we were debating the cosmos...
