Science will never be able to answer the ultimate questions concerning "life, the universe, and everything." It will get closer and closer, but some unknowns will always remain, and we will have two choices: a religious explanation or the number 42.
I know because I googled "what is the answer to life the universe and everything"

Of course, I am giving you only my view of these things.
James, I just figured that to have gravity you need Mass, or Energy, its elusive alter ego.
Mass is that what filles space, the dimensions that got woven with the pre-existing time at the beginning, making spacetime,
that should be better named timespace. to give priority where it is due.
At a singularity, the known laws of nature break down, so anything there, at the beginning, is entirely possible.
If nothing else, my down to earth comments will help those at my level and
sharpen the skills of those that are better and to
formulate better questions for us to ponder.

If you googled it, then you must know the ultimate answer.
I am glad you know.

I think science will eventually fuse w the spiritual. I know scientists are militant against spiritual type stuff. Imo, as they get feeling more secure, they will be more open. As well, their instruments and theories will never stop improving.

“I thought we were debating the cosmos...”
My impression is we are discussing the universe, origin and human perspective.
Bacteria and humans are part of the universe.

Yes, but the question is - does the Universe affect the Bacteria - or do the Bacteria affect the Universe?

james, I googled it and saw serious people having published works on this, I recommended EP to do his due diligence and not dismiss
pre bigbang time as out of hand.
BSW: my current night time reading is :
"A Universe from nothing" Lawrence M. Krauss
the title says nothing about TIME, perhaps he too
takes it for granted that time is forever, unlike diamonds and other cooked up substances.
I will look for the TIME angle in this good read. dated so it is at 2012.
Space expands, travels THROUGH time in my view.
what does it expand into? into the future time out there
How much future time is there? a lot, for it is eternal, infinite even.

I rather like Laurance Krause, prologos - have you read his books "The Physics of Star Strek", and "Beyond (the physics of) Star Trek"?

james, I never read the fiction part. very fascinating surely,
but I like my physics physicly, daily motorcycle, longboard rider, only flying and surfing is better, but can not do it daily.
it is a matter of time.
thank you.
but I remember reading Jules Vernes and other science fiction, super car engines and their makers chased by wealthy Americans,-- teleportation , and speculation on Relatively in th 1930s.
Einstein's works were banned then by the nazis believe it or not.
