If the big change at the AGM meeting is dropping the literal 144,000...

How comforting it is to know that the younger anointed contemporaries of those older anointed ones who discerned the sign when it became evident beginning in 1914 will not die off before the great tribulation starts!
Of course he doesn't say 'current GB members' so I suppose you can say it's not official doctrine, but I think it is obviously what he means by 'younger anointed contemporaries'

nice find Laika! - this is a perfect example of WTS wordsmithing.

As you pointed out it does not say 'current' members, since technically one born in 1992 would overlap with Franz at 99 years of age. This one could still become a GB at a future time and still qualify to be of "one overlap"

HOWEVER, as you demonstrated, when one reads this they get the impression of a promised soon to arrive Great Tribulation.

Thus the desired 'effect' occurs without any commitment on behalf of the WTS

Exactly.. So IMO, the current priority is to try to pump the water out of the sinking ship. Hence the nu-light about the FDS, and the upcoming articles basically authorizing the Elders to invade your life, [ not that they really needed it ] and the need to obey without question. Then we have the upcoming fear mongering from the Ministry of Truth/GB/FDS. Any who speak out against the WTBTS could be false apostles, a very ingenius term that allows for the same level of shunning, but lacks the outright hate-speech of the apostate label.

So if the WTBTS can survive for another decade or two, they can then move on to more doctrinal changes. I imagine there is a direct proportional relationship between nu-light and control/survival needs. They can continue to squelch partakers for now, until they survive this current crisis. They have already admitted that they shelve ideas until the GB come to a unanimous decision via " Holy Spirit." So they can eliminate all the new Ray Franz- like conscious class under the guise of apostasy or false apostles for now, while instilling fear in those who still "need" them as gurus. They can slow their demise until it's Jehovah's time to reveal that there are in fact more worthy partakers [ those drawn to Warwick via Holy Spirit?], or the 144,000 is symbolic, or it has "evidently" been filled much slower than previously understood.

All they need to do is survive long enough to buy some time to further evolve. As it stands now, newer partakers are eyed with suspicion. Why? The END was so close and the generation meant something else. 90 years=partaker and 50 and under=possible mental instability. With the partakers increasing instead of decreasing as prophesied, the nu-light of the GB/FDS had to be revealed or the sheeple would eventually decide for themselves what they thought about this developement. So the GB stepped in and did the thinking for them, with the added bonus of casting suspicion on any younger partakers NOT directly involved with HQ. Pretty cool, right? Combine that with the paranoia, which includes apostates, Satan's media, the older JW's staring death in the face [ including the secret fears of the aging GB themselves], and the enemies within [ your own family perhaps?!] currently raging through the ORG, and you have a incredible force-field protecting the Corporation.

This reminds me of something reportedly said by Gil Amelio, the CEO of Apple before Steve Jobs returned to save the foundering company: "Apple is like a sinking ship with a hole in the bottom, and my job is to get the ship pointed in the right direction".

I have been following this thread over the last couple of days and have been thinking about the implications if such a doctrinal change should take place. All those poor people who have been labelled as 'apostates' for believing the number 144000 to be symbolic!!!

I do hope you are correct sbf because if you are, it will make them look very silly indeed!

    Thumbs up all round...

I look forward to hearing more and thank you for a great thread.

Was it not Ray Franz who raised the need for the organization to reconsider who the 144,000 are and their relationship to the "great crowd"? It would indeed be richly ironic if his "apostate" influence predated the new doctrinal direction of the organization - and

by a mere several decades. Talk about "meat in (over)due season" !

I can't see them doing anything about the 144,000 or 1914, especially on the heels of the WT studies this month with big doctrinal changes. I think it's more likely that the paranoia streak continues and there's a big crackdown on inactive ones, i.e. "if someone can't even report 15 minutes of preaching in a month, how can they really be called a witness of Jehovah? No, in fact, if one were to fail to report any preaching activity for 6 consecutive months, they would no longer be considered one of Jehovah's Witnesses.". No DA or DF needed and it would really draw the line in the sand.

If the big news is anything doctrinal at all, which it probably won't be, it will just be some pissy change mostly revolving around the GB and their grandiosely inflated and delusional senses of self-importance. The GB really do think this whole charade is about them. Meanwhile more children are abused and suffering because of their wicked two-witness rule to oust paedo's, more JW's and their children die because of a needed blood transfusion, more people are shunned and d'd and families torn apart.

Who really gives a shit about their pissy little interpretative changes re 144k, the FDS, etc when those more important doctrines that are actually ruining lives remain unchanged. The GB and their cronies are immoral cowards. They will never in a million years come out and say "We f*cked up on the blood doctrine and child abuse policies and are deeply sorry for all the loss of life and rotten fruitage those sick doctrines produced. We resign."

Well so much for this prediction.

Yet if the number of anointed keeps going up they'll need to do something at some point before they start to look stupid. I mean before they start to look even more stupid.

It will probably happen in the future, Slimboy. They have to keep shaking things up so the rank and file have something to get excited about. Just wait.
