The second group included in “this generation” are anointed contemporaries of the first group. They were not simply alive during the lifetime of those in the first group, but they were anointed with holy spirit during the time that those of the first group were still on earth. Thus, not every anointed person today is included in “this generation"
Interesting that they've finally made that clear. Back when this was 'New Light', some of the convention speakers expressed it that way and some didn't
@losingit - couldn't agree more. The whole concept is bollocks. All I was trying to point out is that this is not a change to their overlapping generations teaching. What it is is yet another damage limitation exercise because it is clear from day one that they did not want to give this impression but have failed to do so. This is despite several attempts through the publications and DA/CA keynote talks.
My guess is that they have had continual feedback to the branches that the R&F don't understand it and think that it means the big A could still be 100+ years away. This is them trying to put an end to this long term view and ensure everyone brings it back down to it being just a handful of years away max. JWTalk already has speculations on timeframes.
This you can not pass the baton unless you are anointed, perhaps 15 year old or 9 at baptism, or 18 at age of consent, brings the end closer again for those that eagerly waiting.
like magicians, pick-pockets keeping everybody distracted with the dates,
while the real manipulation or cleaning of pockets is happening under cover. as somebody said, the have joined the world.
KateWild - I know how you feel. It does get easier the more you research the beliefs of the witnesses. Once you read the old publications and see that they have been deceitful about 1874 and 1914 and 1975. It gets easier to ignore this stuff. Hang in there.
losingit - spot on about the new bible as a distraction and clearly this being the first study article of 2014 they are trying damage control. This was planned a while ago to counter the 2014 embarrassment.
They have changed the language from "evidently" to "we understand".
We understand this generation doesn't mean overlapping generations or two generations otherwise why did he say this generation?
We understand the WBTS has to delicately extract themselves from making false promises of living forever to millions of people.
We understand that many of those who believed those promises died and many have grown old.
We understand that is the human tragedy - they lived and died believing a lie because it was printed in a magazine and repeated over and over.

"The first group was on hand in 1914, and they readily discerned the sign of Christ’s presence in that year."
Did any anointed 'readily discern' Christs presence?
The answer of course is that the anointed thought Jesus' presence had begun in 1874 so they did NOT discern anything correctly for 1914. They were not even in expectation of him!

That's a bald faced lie In fact. Splash Is right. They didn't discern it then, they discerned it in 1874. They are so good at this trickery.
Egocentrism at its best...here's why.
First part of the "generation" equals Franz basically.
Second part of the "generations" equals those that knew Franz.
So, if all the current GB knew Franz, then it is THEIR time in history that really matters. Everything ever written in the scriptures related to the last days, i.e. the FDS, the fulfillment of end-times theology, all of it revolves around THEIR time in history.
They are SOOO important to the fulfillment of scripture that the third group, those annointed AFTER Franz died don't even count as part of THAT generation. Yes, they MAY be annointed, but they aren't the important annointed....
You just can't make this up. It is as if someone on the Writing Committee is working on the premise of the play THE PRODUCERS, i.e to make a story SOOO far fetched that no one will really ever believe it, i.e. Springtime for Hitler (see the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about.)

"We understand that in mentioning “this generation,” Jesus was referring to two groups of anointed Christians."
Why two groups? Why not three?
Because noone can say how many groups make up a generation, thirty years from now they will 'understand' that there are more than two groups in a generation.
