The problem with those "hearing" God, of course, is that the audibility of God’s voice depends on me, and that can’t possibly be right. If the God of the Universe is intent on communicating with me, then S/He can surely break through all of the chatter that surrounds my everyday life. Tammy will probably will disagree with me on this, but I do not think it’s reasonable to believe that the ability of God to communicate is somehow contingent on our ability to hear.
If God does communicate with human beings, then God is entirely able to do that with no help from us. I realize that there are biblical examples of God coming in the “still, small voice,” but generally God shows up in much bigger ways: pillars of cloud fire, descending clouds and doves, loud voices, and a presence that splits rocks and lights shrubs on fire. In other words, the Bible portrays a God who cannot be ignored or overlooked.
Again, you presume to "know" that we have not wanted HIM to reveal himself.
Even Mother Teresa said she never "heard" God. She said " I look but do not see, I listen but do not hear".
So, "What have you done that Mother Teresa did not?" Did she not want him to reveal himself to her?
What about us? Most of us who are atheist are here because we used to be religious at some point, in our case JW. Dont you think we prayed, did what we thought was pious and had faith in Christ? Dont you think we prayed fervently hundreds of times? Dont you think we maybe even "felt" his blessing?
You mention Paul alot. You know how Paul was convinced about Christ? According to Acts, Jesus not only spoke to him but also blinded his ass for days.
You know how Moses was convinced about Yaweh/ Jehovah. God spoke to him...and had a burning freaking bush, along with magic tricks.
Elijah...god spoke to him and caused all sorts of chaos to prove he was the better god.
John the baptist...god spoke along with a magic white dove.
the apostles....had faith in jesus....especially after all the magic tricks, resurections, seeing moses and elijahs ghosts, walking on water. The roman soldier at Jesus death. Only after the darkness, earthquake and all sorts of wierd stuff did he have faith.
Arguably the majority of all the times God "spoke" they were accompanied by tremendous acts or miracles.
Now...someone's "miracle" is "God told me he loves me".....yawn. Seems like God lost his touch.
