By the way does anyone know what the mainstream Christian view of masturbation is? Is this a JW invention or what? So do any of you who are church-goers know what mainstream Christianity says about this please?

I’ve gone to church every Sunday for 20 years; half a dozen different denominations. This topic is simply never mentioned…ever. Why would they mention it when it’s not in the Bible? If God didn’t want us to do it, he could have made us with arms like a T-Rex.

It is only discussed because sexual stimulation of any kind has to be regulated to hold spirituality down. This is similar in scope to materialism--enjoying one's wealth, like sexual stimulation, is a means to spirituality. Which they don't want anyone having--just the fake version that is measured in spirituality-deadening pursuits such as reading the LIE-ble and washtowel, attending boasting sessions, field circus, and the generally dreary atmosphere.

And no, it is not appropriate for them to discuss things that are supposed to be taboo when small children are present. They don't understand it, they just do it--and then get spanked for it. Older children, and teens, are going to do it because they are not supposed to. It's the same principle of sneaking a midnight snack, sneaking a cookie, getting out of doing your chores, blowing curfew, or playing your music too loud. And the bigger a deal the washtowel makes of it, the more those children are going to do it simply because they are not supposed to.

The puritanical approach to sex did not start with, and is not limited to Jehovah’s Witnesses. It’s been around for centuries - sex was for procreation only, not for fun. Christ, those people couldn’t even have sex naked, they had to make holes in their garments, and foreplay was out of the question. Unfortunately this hangover from the Puritans survives in most fundamentalist groups, but it seems the JWs talk about it the most because Knorr was obsessed with it.

Personally, I think sex is vastly overrated, all that effort for a few moments of ecstasy. I like the quote from Quentin Crisp, “sex is a poor substitute for masturbation”, with the added bonus that it doesn’t lead to unwanted pregnancies.

An Elder made me laugh once, I asked why, in view of Jesus words about looking at Sister Sex-on-legs with desire equalling Adultery, Masturbation was not condemned as strongly by the W.T, he replied: "Because then they would have to DF all the Bethel Boys, they are the biggest wankers on the planet".

Sex with someone you love is excellent and it can be the best thing in the world really. The over/underrating of sex is probably caused because of the expectation. Do not expect too much. Just enjoy every moment :)

It makes young teens feel horrible when they are told it is a sin. I can tell you this is how I felt. When I still believed I was horrified with myself. Feelings of unworthiness. Actually being moved to tearful prayers about it. What a mind job.

It's just another guilt & manipulation by a man made religion for people to feel bad about themselves. Masterbation is totally healthy & normal for anyone of any age & any sex.

What used to both make me laugh & make me feel sorry for them at the same time is a JW lady I know used to explain to me how her husband wanted her to give him a hand job so she would use a tissue like it was a dirty thing, and she thought it was wrong to do that to her husband because it was masturbation. STUPID!!!
