It's so sad that this religion chooses to make this an issue, something that is as normal and natural as breathing and eating. Men are made to feel guilty for dealing with the raging hormones of youth. Women are more likely to avoid self pleasure due to religious prudery, but for many women masturbation is the only way to figure out what works for them. The so called ideal of two virgins on the wedding night is a recipe for disaster. A woman who has never figured out what turns her on is unlikely to achieve satisfaction from a man who is driven by his hormones.

One point that everybody seems to have missed here . Nobody has mentioned the bible writers, and the so called faithfull men of old , and of course (the faithfull women) including the disciples of Christ and even Jesus himself . Are we all so naive to think they didn`t have wet dreams , that they didnt spank the monkey? jesus was a human being , he got hungry and thirsty , ate food and drank water,and he shit and pissed like everybody else , he would also have to releive himself sexually like everybody else. Thats just human nature.

As a pubescent girl, the WT obsession with sex was more information than I would have experienced under normal circumstances. Sometimes WT studies were downright titlillating. No wonder so many WT youths married young, resulting in many ill-advised marriages. Some were torn apart and some made the best of it, just short of killing each other.

How does a 16 yo girl and a 17 yo boy make a go of it? I know of at least one of these marriages. Both are scared and stay together out of inertia and fear.

Never had to deal with any of this, but one of my favorite pastimes is bringing up sex with my JW in-laws.

It's my way of fighting back..lol! They're always looking to turn the conversation into something about Jehovah or religion. So, once I realized any sex talk freaks them out I started looking for ways to turn conversations towards sex.

Example: FIL proudly boasts that this system will end soon. Response: When's the last time you got a really great blow job? Look of horror..he's nervous. Putting on his best frown he asks what kind of question is that? Response: Well, I figured since you got to say something stupid I should get a turn too.

Good point Smiddy. Something so universal amongst humans would have been mentioned in the Bible if it is wrong. I don't know how I didn't realise that as a JW, as it was a great cause of guilt for me.

I can identify with so many contibuting to this topic.

WitnessMyFury pretty much sums up the anguish felt by a young person trying to control 'self abuse' as the WBTS likes to call it.

Before the Youth books, occasionally one of the rags would have an article about masturbation that was much kinder than previous times they tried to deal with it & would really lift the self loathing & guilt I felt..........there was some hope that Jah wasn't going to kill me anyday soon at the big A.

But then at the end of the article it would say 'masturbation was an unclean habit & should be stopped', the glimmer of hope was snuffed out again.

At 18 I tried to pioneer to make up for the 'problem' I had, however one sunny afternoon cycling home from my part time job I lost the fight. I laid my bike against a farm gate walked into a field high with corn & led down out of view. The monkey was well & truly spanked!

I then managed 6 weeks without bashing the bishop............. but something that really surprised me was instead of feeling closer to God & happier I really just felt dead inside.

I had always prayed to God to help me not masturbate & he didn't........so what does that tell you?
