Billy- you nailed it. When I was an Elder I heard and saw it all, spousal abuse, cheating, massage parlors, cross dressers, you name it the jws did it in bunches. People were imploding and exploding. They needed real guidance and all they got was shaming and Dfing.

In my own case, my wife lost interest in sex. Bam! And I was being crude all of a sudden to want sex. That doesn't stop the manufacture of semen , though.

Julia, I can appreciate your good intentions, but it just isn't that simple.

I just made an art piece about this and the blue YPA book, I remember being a confused teenager when it came to the masterbation subject...and I really didn't know how to do it (I was sheltered and had no one to talk to about it). So my sexual frustration grew through the teen years, and my only solution was to get married at the end of my teen years . That was stupid I know...and oddly enough I started masterbating after I got married since I my husband didn't really give me those fireworks I was looking for (I had figured out how finally)-

When my husband left in my mid 20's, I got the masterbation"warning" from an elder "friend" to be careful because he knew that it is hard for people who have been sexually active to all of a sudden stop (thats what she said). But I did self-serve for the five year period I was "spritually single"...I did not feel guilty about it then- I figured at the time that I was still in the Borg that masterbating was better than going out and picking up someone for a one-night stand, or even worse...seducing some poor sexually inept brother.

I got an A on my masterbation art project btw , my professor found the female perspective of repressed sexuality by a religious cult facinating. Although interesting, it was harmful for many of us JW's

Quite a few years ago I was at a (gasp) worldly party where there was a a good mix of women to men. One of the women asked me, "Do you ever masturbate?" I just grinned and said, "90% of men do and admit it. The other 10% do and lie!" She laughed and asked if I was going to masturbate later. I said not if she wanted to help me not do so. (Big wink) She did. I didn't. And all was happy!

What if the wife is tired, ill or pregnant? How does the wife feel refusing the 'marriage due' because she is too damn tired, ill or pregnant?

One loving eldurr years ago made the statement that husband or wife had NO EXCUSE to refuse the "marriage due". It was "due" and must be rendered regardless if one was tired, ill, or even in his very words, "Puking sick laying on the floor!"

What a bunch of twisted idiots!

    Was that possibly hyperbole?

Most normal men and women regard, 'Duty sex' as insulting to one degree or another. For many, it's a deal breaker.

I can't even wrap my mind around the idea of one partner or the other insisting on sex when the other is, "Puking sick." If that's not a mood killer, I don't know what is.

My own observation as a pretty damn good observer of people is that the JW world is a paradise for chronic refusers.

I got annoyed at some of the older ones ranting about how disgusting "self-abuse" was, etc., because (at the time) I thought "how the hell is someone with that kind of 'problem' ever going to feel secure enough to ask for help after hearing that shit???"

Now I realize that people who are the most vocal in their condemnations of sexual "perversions" do so because they themselves have the "problem" and can't deal with it.

Julia Orwell - "But as George Orwell once noted, bottling down some powerful urge like sex is necessary for totalitarianism because it creates tension that can be funneled into the regime's activities."

I knew about that, but didn't know it was Orwell who'd said it.

It's true, though; authoritarian regimes feel really threatened by the free expression of sexuality for that very reason (even if the leadership of the regime isn't consciously aware of it).
