The two world wars were as immoral and depraved as you can get.

I'm excited that people are finding their voices via the internet and we are seeing freedom and authenticity growing. The most heartening thing for me is the number of people demanding morally supportable choices (like looking after the planet, desiring freedom of speech, wanting to let people choose their own sexual behaviour etc) These are exciting times, I have a lot of hope.

For thousands of years, religion is what taught people what is right and wrong (whether all of it was correct or not),

Even though the decline of religion may have a positive of everybody is more tolerant of each other (no judging),

is humanity going back into a barbaric phase where everyone is for only themself,

" Even though the decline of religion may have a positive of everybody is more tolerant , of each other ( No Judging ) , is humanity going back into a barbaric phase where everyone is only for themself "_____EoM

    .

    .

Even though I still consider myself a believer

I find that more than not, many use religion only to control

because they think anything different from what they practice to be " Barbaric "

    .

    .

The African Slave was considered " Barbaric " in thier native homeland

and thier religious practices were considered that of heathens

and the attempt to convert them was a major defense of slavery

    .

    .

There's an old African Sayin' that say's

" It takes a whole village to raise a child "

That is most certainly not an attitude a barbarian would take

    .

    .

And for those who still believe

John 15:15 states " I no longer call you slaves; becuase a slave does not know what his master does. But I have called you friends, becuase all the things I have head from my Father I have made known to you "

    .

    .

The WTS, like the Southern slave masters of the past

continues to make a defense for havin' slaves

Here is a video we had to watch in class,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unuG-wXwwY8

He talks about the differences of the decline of ethics/morality/character/etc based on real studies vs the improvements and lessening of prejudices, etc.

I read the article EOM. I could not disagree more with his method or his conclusions.

By using google search engine he asserts that, " Usage of compassion words like “kindness” and “helpfulness” dropped by 56 percent". His time frame for this seems to be a vague - " over the course of the 20th century ".

From this and other similar google results he concludes that " Over the past half-century, society has become more individualistic. As it has become more individualistic, it has also become less morally aware, because social and moral fabrics are inextricably linked. "

If he wants to show that the world of 2014 is less morally aware than that of the mid 20th Century he still has all his work to do.

I refer to my post above...

Something worth acknowledging concerning ethics and religion,

the JWS religion has caused tens of thousands to die as a result of its blood, organ transplant

and vaccination doctrines as well hundreds of suicides indirectly from its DFing/shunning doctrine.

    .

Millions of lives made uselessly redundant and problematic because of its literature proliferation agenda

and repulsion of higher education .... the list goes on.

    .

Where did those perilous and damaging ethics come from ? Answer = organized religion

    .

It pays to have a balanced aspect in evaluating religious ethics .

...........and thats not touching on the Islamic faith/religion.

    .

Its been noted that crime has statistically decreased throughout most moderised countries

    in past recent decades.

Put that with the fact that public religious participation throughout those modernized countries including

all of Europe has gone down in relatively high percentages brings forth the pertaining question " was religious

indoctrination really helping the social behavior of the general citizenship " ?

    EOM,

Nice topic. Cofty and others have already debunked the 'findings" to which you refer. I'm glad you took the Ethics class. I developed and taught, for several years, an Ethics class at one of our local colleges. I have more statistical empirical data you could possibly want to view that supports what Cofty has said in the two posts above. In order to teach the class, I had to have the bonafides. Everywhere in the western world and likely developing world individuals are resolving conflict in a much more civil manner than they were decades or centuries ago. I would suggest visiting some of the museums around the country/world which present the actual manner in which people resvolved conflicts. It will stun you.

It may be difficult for some to believe at times due to the horrofic anomalies and the 24/7 media coverage, but it is true.

DJS - Have you read "The Better Angels of our Nature" by Steven Pinker?

I have read and enjoyed the first few chapters but got distracted by other things. I will get back to it soon, it was fascinating.
