  After having watched that video clip I'm at a complete loss as to how in the world they think this is going to back up their position or help them in any way. If anything it makes them look as if they are in denial.

  I don't think, 18 or 20 years ago, we knew much of anything about pedophiles. It wasn't really looked at as a criminal matter. We didn't publicize it as being an act that needed some criminal intervention, so to speak.

  Forgive my pop-culture reference here, but I remember an episode of "Diff'rent Strokes" that aired in 1983 where Arnold and one of his little friends were visiting with a man who owned a bicycle shop (played by Gordon Jump of "WKRP" fame). He showed them sexually explicit cartoons and attempted to molest them. I can still remember the impact that had on me and I was eleven at the time. I certainly knew that it was an act that needed some criminal intervention, so to speak.

  I also didn't need my Mom to tell me that an adult touching me in a 'bad way' was something that was wrong.

  Who are these guys fooling?!? I think I'm going to be sick.

  The Watchtower is an organization that finds it excruciatingly difficult to say "we're sorry, we made a mistake... we were wrong". When people are backed into a corner and they continue to defend an indefensible position and refuse to do the honorable thing and admit their error, it just looks worse and worse.

  This organization's lack of education at the top and their refusal to get outside help combined with their own arrogance and delusions are showing more and more every day. I think they have lost the ability to appreciate how they are perceived by the outside world and this video is just a poor attempt to justify the past. There is a professional that will offer a "professional" opionion in support of anything if it advances their own interests.

  I hope the media visit the www.jw-media.org site if this is the way they plan to counter the Dateline episode. They are their own worst enemy.

  On August 1, 1995, Gail Bethea-Jackson founded The Pathfinder Project, Inc., a holistic therapeutic, afro centric agency for adolescents at risk and their families.
  Ms. Jackson is a clinical social worker specializing in the area of victimization with an advanced certificate in child and adolescent psychotherapy from the Washington School of Psychiatry.
  She received her BA at Hampton (Institute) University in Hampton, Virginia; and a then went on to earn her Master's in Social Work from the School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
  Once completing her Master's, she worked for Cuyahoga County Social Services where she was one of the initial members of their sexual abuse Task Team. While in Cleveland, she handled cases related to sexual abuse.
  Ms. Jackson later relocated to the Washington, D.C. area, where she was employed at the Children’s Hospital National Medical Center in the Division of Child Protection for six (6) and a half (½) years specializing in Child sexual abuse and adolescent offenders.
  Three of Mrs. Jackson’s years with Children's Hospital were spent in the role of Senior Therapist for the Adolescent Offender Program, where she treated adolescents and oversaw the administration of the program.
  Mrs. Jackson has served on numerous boards, published articles, lectured and presented workshops locally as well as nationally on the subject of Adolescent Offenders and the treatment identification of victimization. She also serves as a consultant to a variety of agencies regarding the issue of victimization and post traumatic stress.
  She has maintained a private practice for seven years, specializing in the field of victimization and adolescent issues prior to opening her own agency.
  She is currently the Director of a private practice in Maryland specializing in victims of abuse as well as adolescent issues. She is a consultant to Prince George’s County Social Services Sexual Abuse Unit, and was consultant to Prince George's Family Preservation Unit; The Family Connection until its closing in 1999. She was also the organizer of the Maryland Chapter for APSAC, (American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children).

  Nice bibliography that blows the WTS right into the toilet where it spawned.

  But in all fairness to the WTS, its senior researches may have missed all of those sources you cited. The explanation is simple: the WTS limits its research to less esoteric journals. They have two primary sources for their non-Bible-based tripe:

  1) For human issues and the social dynamics of dysfunctional families: "Reader's Digest," a periodical with a "rich heritage" of reliable information.

  2) For all other issues regarding science: "Popular Mechanics," and old and long-respected source as a journal for the latest in science advancements.

  For everything else, they get their information from:

  Even if they had watched that "Diff'rent Strokes" episode, I doubt it would have made any impact on them. They are shameless liars and become more foolish to real people each time they open their yappers and try to justify the unjustifiable. Where is this "be humble like an ass" attitude that they drill into their R&F minds being exhibited in them. No, it's more like "be an arrogant ass," for them.

  One has to wonder why, prior to "18-20" years ago the Watchtower religion didn't think that RAPING CHILDREN was anything to be "worried" about as any sort of a "problem." Therefore, they continued to believe that a adult/father/stepfather RAPING LITTLE SIX YEAR OLD GIRLS was fine and dandy.

  Am I the only one having a problem with this kind of "thinking?"

  Lets see, My sisters and I were molested by an elder in 1975. Even back them they handled it much the way they would today. We all ahd to go before a commitee of 3 elders and tell them what happened. The difference then maybe from now was he had a right to sit in the same room while we told our stories. One at a time we had to go in and talk about what was said and what was done to us. It was very frightning at 7 years old to go through that. He was a member of another congregation, so I only found out through my parents what the outcome was. They told us he was disfellowshipped, but now I have mentioned before, I wonder if he was. I remember my parents being angry that he denied it and I remember having to see him at assemblies, I can still picture him and his wife talking with other people as if nothing were wrong. They may have told us that because they were ashamed that the organization did nothing. They stopped attending for many years after that. My parents became active again after we were all grown. They are active now. I wonder if the dateline show will make them recall there own personal experience and open their eyes. That would be wonderful to be able to have a normal relationship with them again since I am disfellowshipped and they have minimal contact with me.
