Lovenhateexams:- in my unqualified mind, all people when dead become skeletons.and then our bones fertilize the earth.

I dont like people giving me a label, be it " liberal" Moderate" or " looney". And i never label people...

I think the real problem is that the label 'moderate' is applied too liberally to people who are clearly not really moderate.-Simon

I totally agree Simon. Most Muslims likely consider themselves moderate, just as most JWs would consider themselves moderate, especially if they weren't a pioneer. When in fact both sets of religious people are indoctrinated into a hich control group. I feel the word "moderate" in the phrase "moderate Muslim" is loaded language for Muslims.

Most Muslims are vulnerable and suseptable to undue influence, so even if the consider themselves moderate they can get involved in practices which reflect they are not moderate and are under control of their religious leaders.

Having said this I personally feel most Muslims are good and honest people who do not want to harm others, they are just trapped in Islam.

I don't either, we tend to generalise and jump to wrong conclusions when we label others. We are all individuals and should be treated as such.

Strictly according to the Koran there is no such thing as a 'moderate' Muslim. 60% of the Koran is filled with Jihad and hatred for those who do not 'submit' to Islam.

The only 'moderate' Muslim is one that has suspended absolute belief and devotion to the Koran.

"...there's a great deal to admire about Islam, it's just outdated...and it's mysogynistic and it's intolerant...we have found alternative frameworks, alternative frameworks for morality...it's the 21st century!"

    (Same goes for the Bible.)

Being "moderate" is a bracketing term without an absolute attached.

We are accustomed to thinking of "moderate" as between the extremes. It isn't.

In a terrorist organization, what would "moderate" even mean? It would be a non-starter.

Among Pacifists, what would being a "moderate" mean?

Jehovah's Witnesses avoid moderation at all costs because they see it as COMPROMISE.

I know, I was whipsawed in that POV during my prison excursion.

My uncle was a moderate muslim. He identified himself as a muslim, rarely went to mosque, didn't pray publically, smoked on the sly and was more passionate about cricket than anything to do with the Koran. My aunt converted to Islam when she married him, but now he is dead sees herself as Xian.

RIP Khalique - you were probably the only sane person on my mother's side of the family.
