Ya right, that's all we need are a bunch of wackos walking or driving around on LSD or heroine.............these drugs should NOT be legalized at all. If I had it my way, I'd get rid of cigarettes and cigars too. There is absolutely no benefit to it whatsoever, it gives you cancer, and the second hand smoke can give your mate or your kids all kinds of health problems........these drugs that you mention are very potent and should not be taken as "recreational" amusement. Just my two cents worth.
Legalize ALL Drugs. Yes or No?

You're all being idiots. No argument for or against legalization based on safety, crime, expense, etc. has any validity. The only question to be decided is - who has the right to decide what a person is allowed do with his/her own brain chemistry. Answer: only that person. If said person then commits a crime while said chemistry is altered - punish that crime. But EVERY adult has the right to decide for themselves what they will do with their own brain chemistry, including the right to do really stupid things with it that don't hurt other people. Any other response is just an attempt to impose your morality on others.
No one on this planet has any right to tell me what to do with my brain or body, so long as I am not harming others.

Mary,

Sorry, but they already are..........
. If I had it my way, I'd get rid of cigarettes and cigars too.
Define 'get rid of'. You obviously could never physically get rid of it or prevent people from growing it or using it, so all that leaves is making it illegal which of course would do nothing to prevent people from growing or using it......so what would be the point? A statement of Morality to prove to ourselves that we are some great moral people who would never use an addictive substance??
Im still waiting for someone to propose that we make Alcohol illegal. Alcohol kills 17,000+ people a year in Drunk Driving Crashes alone. That doesnt include those who die from Liver Disease or other Alcohol related illnesses. We'd also get rid of alot of Domestic Abuse, intoxicated violence, rapes, etc..etc...etc..................So when you get down 2 it, Alcohol is far more destructive to our society than all illegal Drugs COMBINED so why dont we get rid of it???
Come on!! Lets try Prohibition again! It was sooooo successful last time..........

I seem to have entered some sort of alternate universe in which I find myself agreeing with everything crazy151 is saying.

Do you ever hear of Alcoholics breaking into cars and homes to support their booze habbit?? NO! Why? Because beer is CHEAP. I know alot of smokers and I have yet to hear one them say, "Shit I cant support my habbit, im going to have start stealing stuff....."
Well, yes. There are a whole lot of homeless alcoholics who have been arrested for larceny of various degrees to feed their addictions. Beer isn't so cheap when you have no income...
As for smokers and functioning alcoholics, the difference here is that they are still able to function in society and hold down jobs that permit them the luxury of affording their habit. A heroin junkie or a crack addict aren't likely to be working down at the 7-11 or sitting next to you at the office and taking home a paycheck to support their habit. When your drug of choice makes you unfit for civilized society, you're going to have to find the money to support your habit somewhere. The only difference will be that one mugging is enough to pay for a few fixes, not just one.
Drugs could be issued by prescription to addicts and would be much much cheaper than those coming from illegal sources.
Prescriptions for crack? You've got to be kidding me. That whole hypocratic oath thing about 'first do no harm' would just be out the window, I guess.
No one on this planet has any right to tell me what to do with my brain or body, so long as I am not harming others...
Pretty wide net you've casted, there. Sure, you can smoke crack all you want. Lock yourself in a room, never get in a car, never expose children (unborn or already delivered) to you or your filthy habit, use your independent wealth to fund it, and do as you want to ONLY your body, and I'll probaby pity you but it won't much affect me. If you can accomplish total isolation, smoke away. But the minute you want to collect any goverment funds to support you in your addiction, the first second you collect unemployment because your crack-destroyed self can't hold a job, the moment you want my tax dollars to subsidize your habit through distribution or production, or the first time someone else is harmed by your inability to function normally as a result of your addiction, you're no longer an island. -

People can sit around all day talking about how bad drugs, cigarettes and drinking is. They can also try restricting these things all they want... the bottom line is this: Humans are humans and will use these things no matter how much they are restricted.
Thats like someone saying that the best form of contraception is abstinence. Sure, in theory it looks good... but the reality of the matter is that people will have sex no matter what restrictions are placed on them.
The best solution to these kinds of problems is to bring them out in the open and try to create a system that helps prevent the secondary problems associated with them. Suppression only creates more problems.

If it was legal and regulated this wouldnt happen. Look at beer. Look at Booze. TONS of regulations. Besides, if it was a crappy product no-one would buy it and they would get it from someone else-ahhhh the beauty of Capitalsim. -

Sara! They already support their habbit with welfare!!!! And they spend so much money on drugs they have nothing left to feed themselves!
Then you have the smart druggies. Sara, I personal know of people who collect wellfare and then use that money to buy drugs. They then resale the drugs (ie flip it) and then use that money to buy more drugs...etc..etc..so pretty soon they are sitting on their asses getting PAID by both the Govt and by their clients.
A heroin junkie or a crack addict aren't likely to be working down at the 7-11 or sitting next to you at the office and taking home a paycheck to support their habit
So you are telling me their are no high-class junkies or coke heads?? Sara, there are plenty of stockbrokers and weathly business people who spend their money on Coke and Heroin. You just dont see them on the streets becuase they can afford their habbit. Drugs are not some 'low-class' event. Ive worked with PHD's who were pot heads.
