    Hi Sarah Annie,

You make my points for me in all your posts even though you didn't intend to. If someone commits crimes against others it shouldn't matter what substance they were on. The crime should be punished rather than the sale of an enabling substance otherwise owners of restaurants who serve truckers should be arrested for serving coffee which CAN cause sleep deprivation and accidents. Your later point that you don't want drugs legalized because you will have to pay for the addicts through government aid programs is a great illustration of how communal (Socialism, Communism) political systems are by their very nature the antithesis of human rights and always end up being repressive. To extend your logic shouldn't sky diving, football, and snow boarding be banned so Society doesn't have to pay for all the needless injuries, deaths, and disabilities caused by these purely recreational activities? Should women who eat poor diets low in folic acid be arrested because they might have babies with Spina Befida since we must pay for their care? It is logical to force morality on people if we are forced to share in the care for them but I prefer freedom to oppresion so I would rather have freedom and no government programs. I want to make my own choices and suffer my own consequences. That's called freedom, otherwise I'd still live with my parents. Communists love living with and being told what to do by their parents, the government.

Sure. I'll buy that. Coffee can cause sleep deprivation. Go out and do the research, and come back with a percentage of sleep deprivation accidents where coffee drinking was a direct, causative factor.

Then go out and find me some statistics about violent crime, and what percentage of said crimes have illegal drug use as a direct, causative factor.

If the percentages are close, let's say within +/- 10 percent, you win.

And thanks for the "You're a communist" tip-in. Didn't make much sense, but it sure ineffectively labeled me!

How about we make it legal to buy and sell, but make it illegal to use and instead of jail time, fine them.

I cannot possibly convey how annoyed I am to have to concede that this is a very valid point. Damnit.

I just wanted to say how happy it makes me when people are able to argue like adults and conced points. Bravo!

My problem is... every welfare cheque day I've got 1,000 people running around my neighbourhood yelling fire while sucking the public tit.

Legalize this!! Come on Og, move to my neighbourhood.

What exactly is your point? I do not condone welfare abuse.

My point. most of the people abusing these drugs are the same ones with their hands out every month wanting us to support them to. Crack is the worst drug for this, people don't stop doing this crap until there is no money left in their pocket.

    Hi Sargon,

your tax dollars are ALREADY paying for drugs in the form of extra police and massive expense in the lost "war on drugs" and the crime committed by the sellers of drugs and addicts. Not to mention the enormous tax dollar expense of building MORE and MORE jails to house drug users and sellers in. If you think I'm insane, then you haven't considered the bigger insanity: the massive expense of paying for the jailing of countless people for using drugs that comes out of your wallet and mine. Your tax dollars would be saved giving hardcore addicts their drugs until they experience their early mortality.

    Mega,

That makes more sense than anything else I have read on this thread.

I confess, there is a certain logic to that.

Sell 'recreational' drugs just like ciggies are today.

Virtually give the hard stuff away, by prescription or something controlled.

Dealers + cartels go out of business. Crime drops off because people either have a habit they can afford and under control, or OD and solve the problem for us.

It doesn't seem like a bad suggestion.....
