    Beth Sarim: "More and more,,,,its all about the governing body. ""Our future kings,, the governing body"". Its all about them."

    I forgot to mention the "Future Kings" designation. The GB does have a habit of heaping titles unto themselves, doesn't it? They are now the sole members of the FDS, Jesus' Brothers and Future Kings. I look forward to hearing any new titles they give themselves while on this current path of self-aggrandisement. 🙄

    It wouldn't be very difficult to explain a literal maximum of 144,000 away, IMO.

    Jesus claimed he had a little flock, and every shepherd with only a little flock would know the exact number. (Jesus hand picked apostles and first century Christians?)

    Then he said he had "other sheep" and there would be one flock one shepherd. (Modern Christians who claim to be anointed?)

    Then there is a "great crowd" which no man is able to number. (Everyone else?

    I seem to remember that this follows what Russel and early 20th century Bible Students believed. Of course Boozerford couldn't stand being in Russell's shadow. Recall the flip flop about "superior authorities"? The WT could flip flop on the 144,000 just as easily. Every single number in Revelation is claimed to by figurative, except 144,00 which suddenly becomes literal.

    Not Former;

    It is more about governing body praise. Over the last 10 - 15 years.

    Especially the last 10 with broadcasting.

    The GB changes a beloved, 'factual', 'bible-based', core doctrine and JW's will lap it all up.

    They are like magicians performing a magic trick and showing the audience how they did it and yet, the average JW is still fooled.

    Somebody must have reminded them about "12,000 from each of the twelve tribes of Israel" and "...who had never known women". There aren't many Jewish virgins among the Witnesses!

    GLTirebiter, I once pointed out to a little old JW lady that the 144,000 were male Jewish virgins. She said that that was just figurative. I then asked why, then, if that was all figurative, was the 144,000 figure, made up of highly symbolic numbers, not also figurative, rather than exact and precise?

    Jehovah is figurative not literal.

    Not sure about this one.

    On the one hand, it’s been blindingly obvious that they’ll eventually have to “do something” about the perennially increasing number of partakers reported every year, beyond labeling most as “emotionally unstable” as they have been doing. Making the “144,000” a symbolic number is the most obvious and easiest solution.

    on the other hand, the OP seems to be based on a single poster over on Reddit who read a WT article about “the anointed” wherein the number is not mentioned. Seems like a pretty flimsy pole to hang your hat on, especially since in a different article (QFR actually) in the same magazine the number “144,000” is explicitly stated.

    I guess we’ll find out in a couple of weeks, but I don’t think it will be made “official doctrine” yet.
