I generally don't tell people how old I am. By my demeanor and looks, I pass for 30,

SP,
Gender, race and age have nothing to do with the way a persons posts are perceived on discussion Boards. Frankly, a person would not know until they were informed by the poster of any of the above factors.
I have frequently mistaken a persons sex, age and background many times over the couple of years that my posts have infested this Board. I actually thought that Dave was a twelve year old Sicilian hermaphrodite living in Scunthorpe, until he sent me pictures of himself posing naked beside his pool in Malibu.
As to the element of intellect, of course this does affect the perception one has of a person *but* only if they perceive themselves are intellectual and begin to believe their own press. It is then a matter of time before they find themselves as targets. This I have come to see is the nature of these Boards and that is why many posts are best taken with a pinch of salt unless they are discussing life-altering issues. Life-altering issues are the ones that people remember you for three weeks after you have died.
Though I am well read and view myself as a thinker, I do not view myself as an intellectual, my mind is too disordered and I lack the qualities of concentration and commitment. What I am is a fifty-two year old geezer who is arguably the oldest teenager on the planet.
HS - shamelessly patting his own head……
i never really think about the age of the person who's posting, to be honest. maybe that's because i automatically assume that 95% of the people on this board are older than me, i'm not sure.
Tink, Actually it's more like 99 %
Don't worry SweetiePants... I'll respect you in the morning no matter what age you are... so long as you're at least 18.
Prisca-
If you feel you are being looked down upon because of your age, take your age off your profile.
Right, like that makes the situation better. I shouldn't have to take my birthday down. My age shouldn't matter so much.
I was taught to respect my elders, so I am inclined to take more notice of what an older person says than a younger person.
You could easily miss out.
preferably who has had some life experience.
Life experiences, eh? I've found that older people tend to have more engrained prejudices as well, so their words aren't always more worthy of consideration. I think youngsters offer as much as oldsters.

You honestly believe that?
Frankly, a person would not know until they were informed by the poster of any of the above factors.
I think a person should be able to post these things and not be "judged" negatively because of them.
Tink-
You made a comment to me that was something like: I wanna be like you when I grow up? Considering I am like 2 years older than you, I didn't really get that. We are in the same peer group.
Plus this has more to do with factors other than age. Ever felt like people talked down to you because you are blonde and pretty? This is the same type of frustration I feel at times.
SP,
You honestly believe that?
Yes, I do. I not only believe it, I act it, at least in an on-line situation. I believe people are judged by their last post and its content, not gender, race, or age. That is why discussion boards are of limited value.
Best regards - HS
sp - i am really sorry if you took that comment i made in a negative way. i say that all the time. i tell my little sister constantly that i want to be like her when i grow up...and she's three years younger than me. it's just one of my stupid phrases, and i hope it didnt upset you.
HS-
Well I hope you were speaking for yourself only. I can't see how you think that people DO NOT at times take a person's age (gender, race) into consideration when they read their words. Look at what Prisca said: "I am inclined to take more notice of what an older person says than a younger person." I think that most people feel this way. Even I am guilty of this.
Tink-
It didn't upset me, just confused me. I thought you were saying I was like an old lady or something .
of course not. it's more a reflection of the fact that i have a lot of growing up to do. i only say it to people i admire. ;)
