    Azaria-

Why can’t we appreciate life experiences.

I never said I didn't appreciate other people's life experiences, did I? If I did, please show me where and I will remove it. I acknowledge that some people know more about certain things than I, but I betcha in other areas I know more. The problem I have noticed though, is that because someone is older, people automatically give that person more regard (which ain't a bad thing if you at least acknowledge the youthful comments as well). I have seem a few of my very good posts lost amongst a few older males, and you know what sometimes happens? One of them will say exactly what I said 10 posts ago and get praised for it!

I'm one of the older folks and I didn't ignore you. What is the real issue, that you don’t want to be ignored?

The real issue? That was my whole issue. That was what I said in my original post. "If I enter a thread where "grown folks" are discussing "serious matters", my words are often ignored or maybe I get a little pat on the head "aww such a good little girl"." I know others my age deal with the same things; and I never said I wasn't at times guilty.

Could it be that you are the one making an issue of it? It's certainly not an issue for me.

Azaria, my dear, is making a post and asking for other's observations and them commenting on their observations "making an issue" of something? If so, every thread started on this board is "making an issue".

I've always had friends of all ages.

As a child, I was taught to respect my elders. This is (to moi) a joke. First of all, adults are the abusers, therefore not ALL adults deserve respect. Secondly, respect, like trust, is earned.

There is something to be learned from everyone, whether they are 2 or 102.

Also, rather than 'naive', I prefer to see some young people as 'not yet jaded'. It's good to have a fresh outlook on life and the word 'naive' should not be used to put youthful people down!

SP, the next time someone calls you 'naive', turn it back on them, and say "thanks for realizing I'm not as jaded and twisted as you".

Wisdom, just like love, doesn't ask for ID.

I actually thought that Dave was a twelve year old Sicilian hermaphrodite living in Scunthorpe, until he sent me pictures of himself posing naked beside his pool in Malibu

HS, exactly which "Dave" are you talking about here? And why are you asking him for nude photos of himself? If you are referring to me, I have never lived in Malibu you moron! I lived in Laguna Beach about 80 miles south of Malibu.

If you can't learn how to subtlety insult a person to try and make yourself look better and hide your petty jealousies then ask a few people who can show you how. (I think you know who I'm talking about here) see, it's all in how you hide the insult that counts.

    What a bonehead.

The internet really takes all distinctions like age, gender and race out of things. We respond to people based on what they say and nothing else.

Simon, in a perfect world that would be true. None of us live in that perfect world though, and frankly I hope none of us ever have to. Bridget if someone holds your age -- or anything else about you -- against you well they're the ones with the problem, not you. Someone who can't see past the age (gender/race/nationality/etc.) of a poster to respect what they have to say, well likely they've missed out on a whole lot of learning in their lives and will continue to do so. You'd think that after leaving the Empire we would all treasure our open minds and the rewards that come from having such, but some minds are only open so far. Personally, I could care less if a poster was a 17 year old or 47 year old, man or woman, gay or straight. I like to consider myself postjudiced. I make my decisions based on what they say and how they act. Mike.

lol....I wondered when you would notice my post about Dave. He was not very happy with me either and threatened to massage my head with a belt-sander.

    Bridgett,

I think you're smart and I respect you. I have a son your age and I respect the hell out of him. Sometimes age has little to do with maturity or deep seated insecurities. I can think of examples of a couple of older guys right here on this board who don't come close to being as mature or secure as you are.

    HS,

Nude photos of a guy and a belt sander? I think you are border lining something a little illegal here. I'll check with Farkel and get back with you on that.

I laughed when I read that. "POSTjudiced", good one.

    Thanks, you're sweet!

I have revealed my age, ethnicity and gender on the board and I know I am treated accordingly.

Sweety, not all of us do that....I know I don't

If it helps SP, there were quite a few people here that thought I was older than I actually am. The only reason they found out otherwise is, by the new profile on the left.

Be warned, I am about to make a gross generalization.

I find the young tend to base their opinions on an internal dogma. They fight for what they perceive as right to the bloody end. I know my daughter is like this. She never fails to try and put me right, even to the point of sending me links and articles to support her position. I fear I sometimes frustrate her, as I will suddenly (from her point of view) make a topic "off limits" and refuse to discuss it further with her.

Again, grossly generalizing, I find older folks replace dogma with experience. We find that even preciously held beliefs must be tempered, based on the situation. This might appear as compromise to some, but I see it as a necessary way to keep friends over a lifetime. I value the people I carry with me through life more than my internal doctrine. I don't always explain to my daughter why I think her position is wrong, sometimes I wait for experience to teach her. A harder teacher for sure, but the lesson is better learned.

For many months, I lived in "gender confusion" on the board, as several posters assumed I was a man. After I posted my biography, others assumed I was black. Do I debate like a man? To I talk black? Bridget, if I did not know your age, I could not judge you by that. Be careful that you are not using labels as an excuse to exlude your opinions from criticism or examination.

By the way, I am waiting for your critical analysis of my character. PM me!

Age? big deal. I have met older people who are less mature than my grand-daughter. I have met young people who are old souls.

    Physical age is irrelevant.
