I can't believe the the number of people that have contributed to this thread since I signed off yesterday!
Anyway, I realize that my comments are usually short and rude, but that's how I argue now. I've given up lengthy explanations, references, documentation, and all of that proof shit because it doesn't matter.
For years I have been trying to raise doubt in people's belief in god and spirits with philosophic and scientific arguments, but the reply I get from people is usually something like, "because it's in the bible, because god did it or that's what I believe." With those types of responses, what's the point in discussing it anymore?
To conclude, now I just insult people and tell them that their beliefs are stupid and as Brad stated "irrational."

You are talking to yourself here. or, more bizarrely, TYPING to yourself. I think you can get tablets for that... I think if you are trying to be rude in return (it certainly comes over that way) you would have greater success if you mentioned who you were trying to be rude to, as otherwise it looks like you want to complain but haven't got the gumption to complain using someones name.

But you ARE trying to prove something, unless your entire post is a figment of my imagination (and I DO have better things to do with my time than make you up). What are you trying to prove? Well, I don't know, maybe you're trying to prove that you're cleverer/more important than other people as such fluff is a waste of time. But as you are wasting your time doing something that you think wastes time I don't think we can conclude that you actually ARE cleverer than other people, not even if you think it.

Oh, here we go, this is relating to your earlier objections about lumping astrology and New Age beliefs into a set of behaviours that qualified as 'stupid'.
First of all for someone who has provided no evidence of your claims, you're not coming over as vey open-minded yourself. Your argument is 'you can't be right to say it's stupid, I'm right'. Secondly, being open-minded is not a virtue if it ends up with the top of your head falling off...
So New Age thinking... errr... like what? A lot of stuff that gets lumped in under NewAge is very old; I've heard accupuncture decribed as New Age; it's thousands of years old and scientificly demonstrable. If you're talking about crystals etc., then please provide peer-reviewed randomised double-blind studies indicating their theraputic effects. If you can do that and people say it's rubbish, then they are being closed minded. If you can't do that, then you are being closed minded about the vital role proper scientific methods have in winnowing the wheat of reality from the chaff of wishfull thinking.
Likewise with astrology; prove it works, otherwise you're just being hung-up in ancient traditions that have no basis in reality but are too closed-minded to accept it. Of course, constellations of stars that only appear as we see them from this point in space (but actually have no real relationship to each other) that are normally hundreds or thousands of lightyears away may control our every walking moments... just like people believed god controlled their every waking moment!
I'm sorry that the 'prove it works' thing will present you with such problems, but it would be STUPID of me to believe in something just cause you say it is true from your subjective point of view.

People, I was wrong to title this thread the way I did and my use of the word "stupid" was ill chosen. (I said this before but it seems to have gotten ignored in the proceedings)
Notice I did not call any single person in particular here as "stupid" (unlike some rebuttels toward me). Why did people automatically conclude that I was talking about them? I don't know. As a matter of fact, I believe that this site has members whose intelligences I admire; people I have learned quite a bit from.
Really, I don't wish to partake in my own creation any longer. Can I kill it?
