And, yes, some beliefs are stupid.

That might have something to do with it. Not subscribing to certain beliefs is fine, but when you come out point blank and declare that popular beliefs are "stupid," don't act surprised if you catch a lot of flak.

On my remark that "some beliefs are stupid" and people questioning that:

Would you consider the once-held view of the WT that organ transplants are equatable with "cannibalism" as a "stupid belief"? What about the view that everyone who is not a JW -- all 6 billion of them -- are going to be bird food after Armageddon -- is that a "stupid belief"?

There is a thread about dinosaurs on this forum; some people related experiences of fundamentalists who think the dinosaurs never even existed (!) -- would it be incorrect to call that a "stupid belief"?

I could go on. What do you think?

You can call it whatever you like Bradley but if the audience you are addressing happens to accept some of those beliefs don't expect them to thank you for your honesty...expect them to be hostile and defensive...and expect them to defend their beliefs....and be prepared to defend your stance.

I am not saying any of the beliefs expressed here are stupid either....but it really doesn't matter...what matters is that regardless of how you feel about someone else's beliefs, they are THEIR BELIEFS...and yes you can try to change them....but don't insult them...

and don't tell me you aren't insulting the person you are insulting the belief...people identify with their beliefs.

what matters is that regardless of how you feel about someone else's beliefs, they are THEIR BELIEFS...and yes you can try to change them....but don't insult them...

I agree with you. Surprised? I don't do the splits btw....I'm not flexible in that way....LOL!
