Maybe you came under mind control and were hypnotized by a roving band of bearded apostates who slipped some experimental sphincter relaxer medications into the frosting of your hot cross buns last Easter that led to involuntary urinary tract flushing episodes while standing at the Kingdom Hall literature counter??? That, and coupled with your low level of voluntary donations to the support of the World Wide Preaching Work last year and appearing in a crowded shopping mall with a new Bible, started rumors about your excuse of having to rotate your tires every Tuesday and Thursday, made some of the friends wonder if you really do believe Armageddon is close especially after you put 30 year shingles on your house and painted your garage with Sears "best" paint that is guaranteed 30 years against nose smudges and cross grain wipes of human origin.

I do think that if I FEEL like fighting anything that comes my way, I will. If not, they can do whatever they like.

Whenever anyone left, we had to invent a reason, be it pride, materialism etc. They are lovely catch all phrases that give a convenient excuse and blight that individual as being "Not of our sort" 1 John 2.19.... It saves then considering any deeper reasons.

Why am I surprised that you have had no shepherding visit? Today it seems to be a lost art. Nobody does it anymore, unless you count visiting the sick and elderly who give them cups of tea and tell them what they want to hear.

Larger cong let people slip away and no one ever knows why

Nb small congs are no better.. You woud think that simple friendship and interest in you would get them to call . I guess they are afraid that they could not answer what you said.

The day I shocked the body of elders and told them I was resigning as an elder and after they tried to change my mind and realized they couldn't, 2 elders said, "Min, you need a shepherding call". I said in no uncertain terms that if ever I was going to recieve one, it WASN'T going to be from him! (He knew what I thought of him). Thereafter, no one else ever asked me for a shepherding call.

You must have been pretty special at the hall and had a lot of respect from "publishers" for them to try to destroy your integrity and honesty.

Just think of anyone else in the hall that has questions in their mind about it being the truth. All the sudden this well respected brother just suddenly walks out and hasn?t returned. Maybe their questions are gnawing at them even more so now?

By elders bring it to light - just maybe it will make the more intelligent ones think a little harder about "the real reason" why you really left.

Maybe you are helping someone else out that you don't even know about.

Yeah----I'd like to be able to help people in that way. But for now, I'll play cat & mouse. I do know the routine.

Therefore, the only conceivable reasons a person would want to leave have to be irrational or immoral: they have too much pride, they want to make a lot of money, they want to have truckloads of sex, they got stumbled by Sister So-and-so's haircut, etc, etc.

It introduces major cognitive dissonance to believe that someone could leave the way of the only true God, and yet do so for conscientious reasons and still be a really great person. If Witnesses were to accept this premise and think about it, they would be headed for the door. Therefore, they have to find something wrong with the person who leaves - anything - in order for their world not to come crashing down around them. In the mind of a Witness, a person cannot be a grade-a, wonderful human and leave the Truth.

In short, I think that they believe those things because they are desperately trying to preserve their belief system. It's a defense mechanism

THIS poster fully understands why you can't talk to jw- unless they are starting to have issues, and even then one has to be careful

but generally speaking you can just have a conversation about issue that are "Negative" toward to org

i constantly see folks post WHAT CAN I DO, HOW CAN I GET THEM OUT, WHY WON';T THEY accept the 500 pages of proofs that i stood in KinKos and xeroxed last night-

people it has very little to do with TRUTH or facts or proof, it has to do with thier belief system is being challenged

and based on the level of indoctrination of most wt folks it is very difficult to think otherwise-

so agree with the poster, the elder and the jw were simply answering like they have been taught to answer

remember many of us USED TO DO THE SAME
