I own a VW New Beetle. It is a diesel engined vehicle that gets 45 to 50+ miles per gallon of fuel.
It will also run on bio-diesel fuel which can be made from vegetable oils (used or new).
About 3 years ago, I made bio-diesel - for about .50/galllon and ran my previous VW Rabbit diesel on it all summer long.
Perhaps I need to gather the items together to start making bio-diesel again.

There are plenty of alternatives . I think the fact that the world economy is based on oil prices is reason enough for them to ignore alternatives to the internal combustion engine .

Heathen hit the nail on the head. Our economy is based on Oil. What will it take to change it? I don?t have one damn clue. All I know is that Money really does make the world go around.....
I bought a Toyota Echo three months ago, just to get to work (45mi one way, and yes, I do car pool) wow, been getting 41mpg Hwy...Lots of room in that little car too....

However, I have been reading in the News that Scientists believe now that the Earth may naturally produce oil. And that more oil escapes every day through vents in the ocean each day than we have ever spilled or dumped into the ocean.
In fact there are organisms that feed off the oil next to the vents. If this is correct, we may have an unlimited supply one day..... I will try to find the story....
Jim_TX --- That sounds way cool , I never knew about that . I do know that we have formula race cars that run on all kinds of fuels including alchohol . I also know they were experimenting with ethanol made from corn but was demonized because of emissions and was dangerous to the ozone, BS .

70 miles/gallon? must be UK gallon.
I get 65 miles to the gallon out of my CB5, but I have only filled it with fuel twice since September last year as I choose to walk everywhere.
