The 'proper' hybrid-energy cars have regular type performance - 110+ MPH top speed and 0-60 MPH of 10-12 seconds, perfectly respectable !

I think in 30 - 40 years time I suspect many will wonder why more controls and effort into economy weren't made earlier on ... before the fuel got low !

BIODIESEL, DAMMIT! Naturally renewable(veg. oil), (75-80% of petrol used is diesel) and instantly available, cheap, and it would freeup the rest of the oil for reg. petrol, take away all the revenue from crooked middle east countries INSTANTLY because it would take away the need to buy from them. We're absolutely retarded for not using it in ships, trucks, and anything else that uses diesel. Stupid. Not anything we'd have to wait for like hydrogen. Oh, yeah, it burns cleaner than regular diesel.

I think the problem with Biodeisel is that it's use is limited. Could we grow enough to replace oil? How about the food crops *not* grown to make way for it? It has a limited use IMO.

Bio oil is a surplus, a byproduct in many uses. They throw away megatons, literally of corn and soybean oil. Megatons of fryer oil from companies like mcdonalds. WAYYY more than can be used. Just like surplus food. Simon, where does almost all petrol come from? Yup, dead plants and animals from millions of years ago. Not renewable. This is. Constantly. The worlds land just needs to be used more effeciently. Hemp instead of stupid tree farms for instance.

Silly me! You mean that plants & animals stopped dying millions of years ago? and none have died since? No wonder there's the prediction of an oil shortage on the horizon!

OK. I have to wonder about this one rom one of your links, Simon:

80 percent of car and SUV owners strongly that automakers should make safety changes to SUVs that would make the roads safer for car occupants

If I read this right, a bunch of whine-butts driving little econo-boxes want safer SUVs to slam into them?

You think oil only takes a few years to form now? The stuff we're burning up in a hundred or so years tool BILLIONS of years to form. There won't be any more coming around before we are long gone !
