Marilyn, You wouldn't have been included in my 'reject' friends list even if it was a mile long. The folks I mentioned were a few people I developed good relationships and mutual empathy with who were constantly harranged on h20, often from day 1 of posting. (I put you on list number 7 - "friends who kick!" Kent and Mommie Dark are on list 666 ;)

Mommie Dark - brilliant, (why waste words) but Rick won't talk to us low life scum .. personally I prefer it that way. ByTheWay - you and he would make a lovely couple ... I'm not sure if you could handle him though! ;)

I find your complaining largely vacuous and smelling of sour grapes.

Everything has its day in the sun. You and the founders of H2O did a wonderful thing in maintaining the board for 5+ years. Kudos for that. I personally am extremely grateful to you and the others for making the forum available. It did a hell of a lot of good for a hell of a lot of people.

But like its spiritual father, AJWR, H2O will (and apparently the time is now) go away. Simon's board will go away. That's the way of all living things. And a discussion board is most certainly alive.

Your board was dying before the switch to Coolboard. Why? Because too many posts were being arbitrarily deleted. True, the great majority of posts stayed, but it was that arbitrariness, that not knowing whether something you've spent hours on, would be blown away at the click of an over-zealous moderator's finger. After awhile that uncertainty turns to loathing.

Another contributor was your vaunted FPP. The document is simply lunatic. It contains a lot of seemingly good stuff, but overall it amounts to a license to kill -- to arbitrarily kill any post, because the rules are so all-encompassing that they could be made to fit most any situation. Your recently announced changes are too little and too late.

The FPP and your general moderator rules allowed moderators to delete anything, at any time, for any reason, without having to give a reason. You gave them absolute power, and while most moderators were very good most of the time, there were too many loopholes -- so many that I and apparently others got tired of trying to avoid the minefield they created.

And that's what you don't understand, Rick: we got tired of walking around your mines.

Your yourself are guilty of arbitrary deletion, and equally, of covering it up. Nearly two years ago, when Greg Stafford made such a complete ass of himself, you completely deleted his posts in which he shot his balls off. Why, I don't know. Eventually, after I and others complained bitterly and so did Stafford, you managed to "find" and restore the posts you had deleted. No one believes your "explanation" of how that happened. What happened is transparently clear.

As for your extreme concern with "profanity", grow up. Your favored filter program at one point filtered out things like the word "assume" because it contained "ASS". Do you know how many times I had to repost something that had "ASS" as a normal part of the word? I couldn't even post certain Bible passages because they were too risque for your fucking filter. Do you know how old that gets after while? Do you know how good it feels to be able to post to a board that doesn't invoke an infantile "bad language" filter?

No, you probably don't. And that is precisely why you don't understand why H2O is now a ghost town.

Given that the man running the show demonstrates a capability for complete arbitrariness, and that arbitrariness in deleting posts was regularly demonstrated, and that The Man is demonstrably incapable of understanding why arbitrariness is a Bad Thing, once Simon's board showed up as a viable alternative, it was inevitable that people who decry arbitrariness switch from the one board to the other. A no brainer.

You just don't seem to get it, Rick. That's why it may be time for you to gracefully shut down H2O, at least for awhile. Go figure on what I and others have told you. Learn from your experience. But learn the right stuff.

Farkel again tries to inject his negativity in hopes of thwarting my efforts to improve H2O:

You're saying that in whatever area one fails, it is hopeless? That since H2O didn't work, I shouldn't try to right what was wrong about it?

Farkel, you're as unappreciative and heartless as they come in ignoring the efforts of myself, FD2 and others to fix the problems of H2O.

You dwell on past mistakes as if they were set in stone!

Unlike others who are forgiving and willing to give others another chance, it is YOU who has nursed an ongoing grudge against myself. In spite of our cleanup of H2O and many compliments I received via email for those efforts, you continue to hammer me with these kinds of posts.

Same holds true with the Watchtower reform efforts. If these succeeded you will likely dwell on the past mistakes -- like you dwell on H2O's past errors instead of giving at least a nod of acknowledgment at our massive cleanup effort and new site.

You never even acknowledged Aimoo's upgrade of server to where loading posts and posting is instantaneous. That tells me you have never even been there, and keep harping about the past. Why not live in the present? Pretending we're in the past will not make H2O revert back to its older mistakes or cause Aimoo's massive server and bandwidth upgrades to revert back to the slow site that got so many complaints!

Face it, Farkel, H2O has been changed in every respect. Either you are unaware of this. Or it's possible a few are right in saying things like, "Farkel can't let go of a grudge against Rick," and also, "Farkel's actually been to H2O incognito, seen the server upgrades and changes of format with total lack of moderating except for issues that Simon addresses here, and this really upset his ego!" Surely they're mistaken...?
