For a sore throat we got hot tea with lemon, honey, and just a tiny bit of whiskey in it. Made the throat feel better and made us sleepy.

My mom was really into naturpathic and homeopathic things so there are tons of them but I'm not awake yet so that was the first one that popped into my mind.

Cure a Hiccup = Put a small cube of sugar in a spoon. Drench the cube with red wine vinegar and eat slowly.... (BTW, it may work with white vinegar, never tried it)

Another one, and we got that from our mom as kids...... (and none of us kids have turned alcoholics... Hic... )

Cold remedy : Before going to bed --- boil water, pour in a mug over some brown rum (3 TBS, at least), add sugar to taste.... BTW, it's called Grog.

HICCUPS = A big spoon full of peanut butter. The process of getting it out of your mouth breaks the diaframs rhythm.

hiccups... hold your breath until you can't hold it any longer, take a breath and repeat. hiccups tend to be gone after 3 passes.

sinus problems, or anything related to a cold, i.e. coughing up nasty stuff from your chest. - eat toast, don't drink milk.

soar throat/toncilitis - duh, don't eat anything spicy or with rough edges, and eat icecream.

I grew up with tons of them, since Dad was a naturopathic physician.

My special "favorite" was the "worm cure". A big spoon of raw sugar with a drop of turpentine on it, followed by a healthy dose of castor oil. I'll never forget that weekend, but it worked.

The gall bladder cleanse was a good one, and it worked too. Dad told me how to do it when the doctor wanted to remove my gall bladder after a very unpleasant attack. There are variations on this, but this was his way. Boil grapefruit pieces, including skins, and cool. Drink the liquid, and as much olive oil as you could get down................about a 1/4 cup for me. You are supposed to do this several times a day for three days, and eat nothing. I lasted one day, and was so sick I couldn't stand it, so quit. It cleaned out the stones though. They dissolved into sand, and passed through. No surgery. That was 20 years ago.

There are more, but like Gretchen, I just woke up.

    I like p-nut butter, ConfusedJW...sounds like a winner!

Yeah, that's what I usually do for hiccups, dh....but I'm gonna try that p-nut butter next time. That toast idea sounds good...something to clear your throat...and milk just makes more mucous (blech).....you really don't wanna know what my Mom did for our tonsils...but it did work....alla my kids still have theirs.

LOL, Mulan! That almost sounds like the one my Mom used for "croup"....a teaspoon of sugar with a few drops of kerosene in it! If Child Protective Services had been in existence when we were kids, eh? We'd have probably kicked the bucket without these little gems...noxious as they might seem.
