The gall bladder cleanse would work for the liver too. There are products for a full body cleanse. If you are interested, I actually market some of them, so you can PM me.

Mayonnaise is a great treatment for dry, lifeless hair. Just smear it all over, wrap with a plastic bag or plastic wrap for about an hour and wash out. Has to be real mayo though, not non fat or low fat kind.

I didn't know that about the gall bladder cleanse working for the liver, too, Mulan....thanks! You're right on the mark with that mayo treatment, cause I've used it before and it's terrific....only it requires a LOT of shampooing (3X) to get the mayo out...but the results are amazing!

My grandmother is part Ojibway and often made conconctions for us. One we had everyday was supposed to prevent colds - Tasted gawd awful and smelled as bad but it worked. I have no idea what was in it - looked like twigs and crap and have no idea where she got the ingredients from.

One thing we used fairly often was mustard plasters.

I have a tendency to get bronchitis and have had walking pneumonia a couple of times. So has one of my brothers. My grandmother or mother would make the mustard plaster using a paper grocery bag. It would be put on the back and the front of the chest while under the covers. You have to watch it carefully because it can actually burn and blister the skin and fair people (like my family) tend to burn easily from it.

How do you make a mustard plaster?

    3 Tablespoons flour
    1 Tablespoon dry mustard

Mix with cold water to make a paste. Spread the mixture between two sheets of heavy paper (grocery bags are great and thick. Some people use cloth but my family has always used the bags - just toss in the garbage when done. The bags should be large enough to cover the whole chest area and make 2 - one for the back and another for the front. Place the folded bags with the mustard paste in betweeen the paper on the body next to the skin. Cover the person up to their neck. When you first put it on it will feel cool but it will warm up. Leave on for 10 minutes and check to make sure the skin is not getting red. If it is - take the plaster off immediately. Leave on 20 minutes maximum.

Remove the plaster and stay under the covers.

By morning any fever would be gone and the chest congestion whould start to break up allowing the person to start coughing up any phelm.

In our family we never had to repeat this a second night. it always worked.

My cats get hiccups - well one does. After I am finished laughing at his poor situation I pick him up holding him under the two front legs with my hands around his body and letting his rear dangle. The change in the position of the diaphragm almost always stops the hiccups on the first try.

LOL, Lee!! It'd be interesting to know what was in it, eh?

I've heard of that one, Lee.....thanks for reminding me......a babysitter we used when my oldest was young taught us about a salve called "Musterole" which is probably similar....thank goodness we've discovered L-Cysteine and can do without all the yukky stuff now....just a capsule 2X daily loosens the congestion PRONTO! It's been a blessing.

LOL! Now THAT is truly interesting and innovative, Lee! (wonders if hanging upside down would do the same for me)

    Frannie,

I self-studied medicinal herbs and wild herbs and foods for 20 years. Planetary formulas are usually excellent. Michael Tierra was one of my earliest "teachers" with his book "The Way of Herbs". He, himself, is a butthead. A little too egocentric for my taste. I was studying his East-West home study course and involved with his students-only web discussion forum. He has absolutely no use for western medicine, whereas my life was saved in the mid-50's by antibiotics. I believe the two can co-exist and thrive if they get together. Eastern and naturopathic medicine and alopathic (scientific) medicine compliment eachother well.

My favorite herb books are Michael Moore's (not the movie-maker) on Western and Mountain herbs. He's a hoot! Hippie who introduced Tierra to herbal medicine.

My mom actually got me interested when I was a kid. When we'd go camping, she was always picking and eating the plants around camp. She told me a few old remedies, too, as did my gr.grandmother.

I've been away from it for a little while as I'm working on getting my Social Security Disability for FibroMyalgia, so I have to rely on Alopathic Docs and drugs. I also had a bad experience with a naturopath. She just didn't listen, and I ended up in the hospital.

    Hugs

if i have a cold i will drink lots of decaf tea(hot), and eat ginger nut biscuits. i certainly notice the difference ginger makes to a head cold. i use decaf, as caffeine makes u lose water from ur body, which doesnt help in fighting a cold.

WOW, Brenda! You've really got some gooooood background there.....I don't know Tierra at all, but I sure was relieved to find that Candida Digest....Interesting insight into his persona though....guess he let it go to his head.....

I'm with ya on the two (alopathic medicine and homeopathy/naturopathic medicine) working together, Bren! I've had experiences where I couldn't have healed without the use of both. Medical docs usually have squealin' worms over the use of homeopathy tho...heheheh Probably cause it takes money outa their pockets....and some wind outa their sails, eh?

That book of Michael Moore's on Western and Mountain herbs sounds interesting...his personality probably makes it more intellectually "palatable"...

It's a shame we've lost so much of what our ancestors knew about common herbs found in nature's flora, idnit?

I'm so sorry to hear about your disability, (((Brenda)))...I hope your SSD comes through with flyin' colors and soooon....though I'm sorry you're getting it for that reason......

Yep...ya hafta be careful with naturopathic practitioners AND natural remedies....they can really screw a person up if one doesn't know what they're doing.

Cool, Sheila! I hope some of the things ppl post on this thread are of interest to ya....and if you come across any interesting info in your studies, maybe you'll share it with us, eh?

the easiest and quickest way to get rid of hiccups is to place your thumb and middle finger on the heart line of the opposite hand. works for me immediately, every time.

Thanks for the ginger/cold remedy, PD....I usually fight one off with an antihistamine and lotsa "C", but sometimes it catches me offguard so that's good to know about the ginger.

Well, that's a LOT simpler than havin' ta hold my breath till I almost faint, PD...LOL! I'll try it next time. Thanks again!
