There were reforms in the organisation in the early seventies, and things were getting better. Then Jonnson came along with his 607/1914 research, apostasy broke out, Watters left and wrote his pamphlets, Ray Franz and other were forced out, and the organisation went into a siege mentality. The Witnesses might be very different today, had the apostates not declared war on them in the early eighties.

I could not bear to read anymore without comment on this ignorant statement. To what reforms, SBF, are you referring? Jonson's reseach should have prompted reform of the highest degree among those who actually had integrity! There was no malice in his efforts. He had, and still has, solid evidence that the organization was full of poop on the 607 issue. The so called seige mentallity came due to a lack of humility in admitting this tremendously horrendous set of lies that put the foundation under the organization to begin with. The others also had that elusive quality of integrity. There was no outbreak of apostasy, there was a clamoring for truth and honesty instead of lies, deception, and misrepresentation. Are integrity, honesty, admission of failures, truth, of no importance to you. They are certainly of no importance to those who have been informed. You are right about one thing though.

The Witnesses might be very different today, had the apostates not declared war on them in the early eighties.

Had the organization shifted gears and showed integrity, honestly apologized for misleading others, it might have been possible to actually get fresh start with those who faithfully accepted the doctrines of JW. The great fallout is coming later due not to integrity of those in charge, but due to integrity of those who have left and a medium [the intenet] that is unstoppable by these men in power. Jeff

    Slimboyfat:

I think you may have a point. I thought about this myself. If so-called apostates didn't make such a stink about this, it is quite possible they would have quietly changed things in some way. But now because of all the hubbub, they have to cling to it whether they believe it or not.

    No.

Their stubborn stand has nothing to do with apostates. Get real. It's all about millions of dollars.

The WTBTS would get their a$$es sued off and they know this. I say this not to SlimBoyFat, but to anyone who is reading this site in earnest.

Bent logic LHG - the hubbub is not perceptible to most witnesses in fact. They have been warned away from what we see and know. So changes, while prompting the so called apostates to assume a victory here or there, would go entirely unnoticed by the R&F witness flock.

So, they can change those things that take life and liberty away from current witnesses. It is a matter of will. They simply do not care enough about real truth and have not exhibited humility enough to make any reforms. Hell, many apostates would prob go back if the changes displayed real Christlike integrity. I might even revisit my decision to leave in fact. I left due to lack of integrity and honesty and humilty. All things that should be the haulmark of 'truth'. Just my opinion.

my only response would be a repeat...which was posted previous, but it works well..

Furthermore, the fact that you take this type of convoluted logic so seriously tells me, IMO, that you have a lot of learning and growing to do.

The very fact that the Witnesses have succumb to science and technology on some issues, see Alanf's list of stuff in the Knocking thread, proves they change and adapt at their own pace and liesure. They could change their policies in an instant and simply kick out any dissenters they wanted. This is what they have always done and what I would imagine they will continue to do as long as they are an organization. It would be foolish to believe that pressure from former member's really back them into any corners. They are more than willing to show teeth and come after people in court, use of the law to shut down dissenting websites, etc...Which IMO proves they are just dogmatic freaks, not some old guys cringing in the corners of Bethel because of us.

    Sincerely,

Now bare with me here for a sec. I heard the Catholics did over 150 "mea culpa's" ( that means they admitted they where wrong, but I know you know that) And in one of Ray franz's books he brings out about the religion 'The Plain Truth' admitted when they were wrong as well!! So the society should HUMBLE themselves and admit they are wrong. (My husband brought this to the elders attention June 27 when they where here after we sent our disassocation letter to the, it was announced June 30 we were no longer witnesses) They had nothing to say to that !!!!!! So NO we are not guilty!!
