:So six what was your response to this neighbor? Did you set him straight or did you agree with him?

Good question. Confusedjw wins the table on this one. I did what anyone should do when they don't have facts and figures at their fingertips to back up what they know emotionally to be true: I started to cry like a little girl. That's when he graciously changed the subject over to Saudi Arabians, and I brightened right up. Everyone knows I hate them goddam ragheads!

In the Black community few children have two parents rearing them.

In the Polynesian community; in the Native American community; in the Indigionous Alaskan communtiy; in the ..... OMG! Middle Class White Community where both parents work and the child-rearing is done in a day-care setting, and the parents come home dead tired and don't have the time for their children as much as they would like or "should", and often one of the parents is a step-parent!

Terry - not blasting you, your writing makes sense in many ways, except that I am a "bleeding" liberal.

"It takes a village to raise a child" is not a far-off statement.

Now back to the basic "issue" (Gazunteight)....

People believing racisim and bigotted beliefs, and applying any and all preceived situations to their belief structure.

I wonder who many non-blacks were standing around under a different airconditioner vent? "Ok, this is the Black vent. That one over there is the Hispanic vent. We'll take this one as the White vent. You, well, I'm sorry, but there are no more vents left for women."

The fundamental point is not how many (numerical) parents rear a child.

The fundamental point (to my discussion) was the impact on a child from a missing parent who has ABANDONED them. In your example the child and the family have priority and support because by human effort the reward is seen in the responsible child who grows up.

In the black community where the father impregnates for fun and vanishes there is no community support by family in a positive organized way. The grandmother often becomes the surrogate parent who rules with an iron fist. The black man who has no respect for women has only been bullied by an uncoping mother or an indignant grandparent.

The Polynesians take a positive hand's on approach through valuing the child and the role of parenting. What they do is an investment in their community. It is the opposite of charity. Charity pours money into an unlimited hole of "need" without building anything self-sustaning in its stead.

As Dr.Phil says, this is a "kill and eat" world unless people use their minds and talents and efforts to surmount brute nature. Liberal philosophy says the opposite. It says, "Let the man who earns his meal through his skill take food off of his own table and give it to the man who refuses to hunt. Why? Because of need."

The need is not a floating abstract. It is the effect brought about by the cause. How do we identify the cause? By looking at the effort vs non-effort. What has the hungry man earned? Not working is the same as earning nothing. Nothing creates need.

My husband works at Home Depot here in TX and I am delighted to say that none of the Home Depot employees I have met have such opinions and I do not seem to be meeting many Bush supporters either. They do seem to feel that the way things are dragging on in Iraq is causing their opinion of Bush to go down the Home Depot various brands of toilets.

    Can we define Racism?

Race we can identify because we can point to people of race.

Actions of a person of race we can identify by what the do and don't do.

The effects and results of what the person of race does can be identified as well.

When a person does something and the results reflect upon them badly they have brought shame upon themselves. But, when entire groups within the community of race do not condemn those actions they bring shame upon their race. Once any group of race supports policies destructive to their community in the name of expediency; they bring down upon themselves the disapproval of others not of their race.

When these actions are identified by non members the defensive posture becomes: RACISM.

It is deflection and evasion of calling the destructive acts into question. It is avoiding the problem. It is intellectual dishonesty to refuse to deal with causes that produce effects.

It doesn't matter what race a person is; what matters is the actions of the person and how it impacts upon himself, his family and his community. No man can be an island.

When the community or the family endorse non-working, slacking, drug taking, poor education and disrespect; they are inviting disapproval. The most easily identifiable way to call out such a group is by what identifies them: race.

On Nine Eleven our attackers were Arabs and Muslims and yet we are told the Arabs and Muslims cannot be profiled when we see to protect our borders or airports. This illogic comes from evasion of fact. Liberal attitude is illogical and evasive in this regard. By being Politically Correct we evade statistical data meaningful to self-protection.

By pretending certain races do not have communities being eroded and harmed by the deliberate disavowel of personal responsibility---is to turn a blind eye to causes that produce effects.

No amount of evasion can avoid the scores of black children on tests, the income level of black families and the number of illegitimate births into poverty which breeds a downward spiral.

Call it what you want; but, effects have causes. By incorrectly identifying the causes we perpetuate the destruction.

Our choices in life determine our course in life. We create our life by our attitude and our action.

Making excuses never solved a problem.

Terry, in my reference to a village I overshot my point. I was not refering to the ethnical groups where it is common practice for a young woman to bear a child out of wedlock, dump it on the grandparents, and resume her life because the "village" would take "care of it". In contemporary history there have been many cultures where if a young woman had not had a child before marriage, she was not marriageable material, and therefore was not capable of continuing the human race. This attitude continues in many cultures today, even though it is no longer practical. We no longer have the strong extended family "villages" that can support this culture. Predudice, repression, slavery, racial warfar, and the white society superiority complex has reinforced the apparant Blacks, Polynesian (Hawaiian more specific to my experience), Indian Rez, and irresponsible right wing fundamentalist god-fearing bush praising christian households where sex and birthcontrol are improper areas of discussion because it goes against their ideas of what the bible teaches and "oh we just couldn't tell her about contraceptives because it would condone her actions" attitudes which has helped produce one-parent male-abandoned and/or one-grand-parent households raising children. I'm a "bleeding" liberal because I believe that it is my responsibility to help my neighbor, at any and all levels within my abilities, including giving my last $1 to a mentally challenged streetwoman. It is not my responsibility to shove my belief structure down their throats and to legislate personal private decisions. But I also believe in my neighbor helping him/her-self as much as they are able, and the government lending a helping hand, too. The welfare system and social security were put in place to help those who could not, or give a leg-up to those who needed short term. It is very unfortunate that it has been so badly abused, by those who have been raised with the attitude that "they owe me because....<insert excuse here>". Because of progressive chronic illness I am in the end stage of a long and painfully drawn out Social Security Disability process. I've paid into the system, I qualify because x-y-z, and I truly hope to win my claim because I have had to use my own 401k moneys, savings, and the sale of my house, to take care of my bills. I am grateful the bleeding liberal socialist safety net is there and available to those who can, by lengthy, painful, expensive, and legal process, prove their claim. It took me 10 years to finally be ready emotionally to go thru with the "battle" because I have been a self-supporting non-burdon on society since leaving JW-dom. (5 years general office, 7 years in the insurance industry, and 15 years in the computer industry - all after my stint as a janitor - after being pulled out of HS to go into the last days ministry!) Now, back to our regularly scheduled prgramming. PS, Terry, thank you for not pointing out my typo's and improper sentence structure. A hold-back to my JW- lack of secular education. P-PS... If I were Sixy I think my respons would have been something to the effect of : "you're kidding, right?"

Premise: We no longer have the strong extended family "villages" that can support this culture.

Logic: It is other people's fault.

Supporting argument: Prejudice, repression, slavery, racieal warfare, superiorty complex of white society....irresponsible right wing fundamentalists....

Conclusion: IT ISN'T CHOICES but, interference that has brought the black community low.

    Is this your argument, really?

How do you account for the blacks whose values include education, hard work and sexual responsibility? What produced them? A freak of nature?

The people who marched and lobbied for rights earned the rights for themselves and others in their community. How have the rights been used AND ignored and what are the results specifically in regards to those using them and ignorning them?

The Japanese people had two hydrogen bombs dropped on them by the same people you decry. They even had their god on earth brought down (the Emperor was god) by these same people. Yet, they are a refined and polite economically viable group with no demands for reparations. They have produced automobiles and electronics to rival and surpass America's own by dint of hard work and a superb ethic of excellence in what they achieve. They made themselves into what they have become DESPITE being blasted nearly off the face of the Earth.

By comparison, wouldn't you say the black community which cries: "look what they've done to us" has little in the way of an excuse?

Or, am I missing something here?

I used to be a manufacturing line coordinator, and I had plenty of people come and go.

Most of the people working on my line were black, and most of them worked just as hard or harder than the white people at the plant. I will admit, there were some who would do a lot of sleeping and wandering around, but there were more who would work than wouldn't. The people who didn't want to work didn't last very long.
