Cosby's comments were mostly ignorant, just like some of the posts in this thread
Would you kindly share the Cosby comments you disagree with?
What did he say and what is your rebuttal?
Thank you,
T.

Hi Terry!
My recap of our discussion/debate: Reason vs Excuse. With "reason" one understands why it is and uses that knowledge to change. With an "excuse", one is using their history for a reason not to change.

Pithy and accurate! I salute you.
Your comments made me think of a criminal trial.
The lawyer who defends a really awful client appeals to the conditions which created the inclination to wrongdoing and an appeal for leniency is made based on pity and extenuating circumstance.
The prosecutor points to the harm done and to the injured victims and asks for justice.
Somewhere between the two rationales there is the wiggleroom of "interpretation" for the jury.
Nobody seems to want to address the prime number question:
1. Should a person be held responsible for his actions?
If we always point to "why" and appeal to pity and injustice as a free pass to wrong action there can never be true responsible ownership of an act that causes harm.
If you do something; you OWN IT.
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
If you talk the talk; you gotta walk the walk.
The above are popular phrases in the inner city which mean next to nothing in reality.
Pithy. Hmmmm. I do get defensive at times so I'll take your response as constructive criticism.
Dang it, you make me think, and it hurts to think.

Define: PITHY: Precisely meaningful; forceful and brief
Oh, how I wish I were pithy!!!!
In the black community where the father impregnates for fun and vanishes there is no community support by family in a positive organized way. The grandmother often becomes the surrogate parent who rules with an iron fist. The black man who has no respect for women has only been bullied by an uncoping mother or an indignant grandparent.
I so love broad sweeping statements. Amazing that I don't see myself in that mix and I happen to be a black woman reared by a 2 parent black family who amazingly enough both of my parents came from 2 parents black families. Oh and I am married to a black man and guess what?....we have a 2 parent black family going on!! Can you stand it?! I bet you can.
This was and is the norm for me. That above....No.

Oh and I think Cosby was and is spot on. You go Bill!!

Wow, that father/man you describe sounds like mine only mine was white.
