It would not be wrong for the mother to visit with her kids, as long as it were not spiritual association.
i ran into an elder the other day at walmart.
he's a fairly good man and has a wife that is very sickly.
so sickly in fact i don't know how she's holding on.

freedon of religion guarantees any individual the legal right to abandon any religion at any time for any reason.. if you are a citizen of a country which champions human rights, then your government doesn t care what religion you join, but they will uphold your freedom to join it, without interference, coercion or persecution.
your countries human rights legislation will conversely uphold your rights when it comes time to abandon any religion you so choose.
those (elders) who incite others interfere, coerce or persecute those who have left will be in transgression of the human rights statutes.. a person is only obligated to ecclesiastic law if he exposes himself to it or transgressed it while still a member of a religious community.. when your time comes to abandon the jw-wt cult, do it while still in good standing, be proactive - be decisive -put it in writing!..and do it before the hounders set sights on you.. write a card or letter with as much or as little explanation as you one day might wish to share with pharisees and lawyers.. take this card to a notary public to have your signature witnessed and have the writing overstamped in several places with the date.
As despicable as the shunning is, I don't think it's a good idea to get the judiciary involved.
Could not disagree more.
You do not have the right to crap on my lawn.
The rights of any institution, corporation, church, or otherwise, should never surpass the rights of the individual.
The interpretation in the US that a corporation is a person is one of the worst interpretations in jurisprudential history.
NO INSTITUTION has the right to tell you who you can associate with, and certainly does not have the right to tell you to hate your own family.
Show me where that right is either granted or is reasonable.

Does anybody know if this will hold up in court. In other words can this be used to bring a suit against the watchtower?
No it won't. The Watchtower is also free to associate or not associate with people as it sees fit. And you're free to leave if you want. Your family and freinds are free to stop talking to you if they so desire. The UN statement on freedom of religion is more like a goal or a statement of principle than a law.
Not in the US.
Other countries have a better balance of rights.
hey gang, i'm a fader and i've made a few posts in the past, but i mostly lurk.
i had a visit with a family member the other night and they know how i feel about my life as a witness growing up.
my life as a witness was not fun, i had no friends "in the truth," was picked on relentlessly in school, and basically my life as a witness left me with not one real good memory.
When I don't go, I don't have to take pills, and I don't feel like killing myself.
I went through a multi-year depression. The less I was involved with meetings, the better I felt.
The night I was kicked out was horrible.
The day after, overwhelming relief.
And despite all of this, I still feel a spiritual need of sorts. I like what the Bible teaches as far as morality, love, kindness, praying, etc.
My favourite verse is Mt. 5:3 Philips "Happy are those who know their need for God."
I do believe in a Creator.
I do believe that the Universe was created by the greatest mathematical mind conceivable (actually inconceivable).
How to put everything together - who knows?
But, Matt. 22:37-39 is a good start.
The post about the Good Samaritan.
Was it looking down at this unconscious wretch, and stuffing a tract in his pocket, and saying: "Hey, if you survive, read this. If you accept the way we teach the Bible, then God will take of you"?

especially in a spiritual sense.
Ummm, wasn't the point that these two men were of different religions, and then offered medical and financial help nonetheless?
Colombia reports that 66 percent of the Witnesses are sisters and 34 percent are brothers.
Okay, you guys have convinced me.
I'm returning, and going to where the need for brothers is great.
Hubba, hubba.
how to fade intelligently ?
tell me your secret and then i will tell you in due time my secret.
it's important when we have to face a manipulative cult with some members of our family trapped inside, yes it is important to know how to fade intelligently so that our jw family members are not going to shun us.
Tell them that you're depressed.
Ask if you can talk about it.
Talk for hours and hours.
Afterward say that that was nice, but you still feel depressed.
Can we talk again?
Those 3 hours invested will pay huge dividends.
a segment from (in english) if you are the one?
one of china's most popular tv shows, it can have up to 50 million viewers.. its chrissie time, so we can be sentimental (smile).. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teic1sk8epy.

Agree with Flip and BGN.
When "courting" my wife ran away just fast enough that I could catch her.
It's stupid.
It is more about the game than an attempt at open disclosure and genuine compatibility.
does anyone have the link to dl the wt library?
i was looking for some mag from the 1900s and see that the jw org site only goes back to 2000.
Wow.
Great stuff.

THE I. B. S. A. AND THE WAR
The International Bible Students are
not against the war. They recognize
and have long taught that the Bible,
three thousand years ago, foretold the
present great war, and that God's hand
would be in it. When in 1915 President
Wilson asked the ministers to
pray for peace, Pastor Russell, in an
address in the New York City Temple,
said:
"Our honorable President with
praiseworthy intent has requested
all Christians to make this a day of
prayer for peace in Europe. I have
been asked to sermonize accordingly.
However, I cannot concur with
our worthy President in this matter.
Much as I appreciate peace—
and I have all my life labored to be
a peacemaker—I cannot pray the
Almighty to change his plans to
conform to those of our honored
President. For 2,500 years God,
through the Bible Prophets, has
been telling his people about this
great war and concerning the more
terrible Armageddon which will
follow it; and can we expect him to
reverse the program at our behest?"
Pastor Russell recognized that this
war, foretold in the Bible by Jehovah,
will be overruled by him and result in
good to mankind. The Bible says,
"There shall be a time of trouble such
as was not since there was a nation,
even to that same time." (Daniel 12:1;
Matthew 24:21) If it is disloyal to call
attention to the meaning of this great
trouble upon the earth, then it is disloyal
to repeat the Lord's prayer. He
taught all his followers to pray, "Thy
Kingdom come; thy will be done on
earth as it is in heaven." That Kingdom
could not come until after this
world travail.
Furthermore, the Lord said: “Wait
ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the
day that I rise up to the prey; for my
determination is to gather the nations,
that I may assemble the kingdoms, to
pour upon them mine indignation, even
all my fierce anger: for all the
earth shall be devoured with the fire
of my jealousy [not literal fire]. For
then will I turn to the people a pure
message, that they may all call upon
the name of the Lord, to serve him with
one consent." (Zephaniah 3:8, 9) Thus
Jehovah points out that after the trouble,
there will be given the people a
pure message and a great blessing shall
come to the people.
