10/31 New York Times, "They’re Giving Scammers All Their Money. The Kids Can’t Stop Them." Has Watchtower scammed your family?
by Balaamsass2 inthe seniors in our family were scammed by watchtower, for over 7 figures.
an interesting read today to give some insight.. one of the most egregious con-artists is watchtower bible and tract society the “legal” entity for jehovah’s witnesses.
many retired jehovah’s witnesses have been targeted over the years to “loan” money for various “special projects” to further the “preaching work”, only to find they are never to be repaid.

SBF "Too many people think they’re entitled to their parents’ money, and get very annoyed if they start spending it instead".
Having a punk kid from Bethel tell me to "Put her on Welfare" is what was "annoying" to me. I did remind HQ "the bible commands followers over 70 times to care for widows and orphans".
In this widows' case, after being the recipient of more than a million dollars, Watchtower left her PENYLESS, and unable to afford basic dental care. She moved in with us for some time and we paid her expenses. Eventually we had to take out an equity line to pay her increasing expenses.
I have seen this occur to other families.

The seniors in our family were scammed by Watchtower, for over 7 figures. How about yours? An interesting read today to give some insight.
Once potential targets are identified, Watchtower sends experienced JW financial salesmen to "Close" the "sale". Eventual requests for repayment are ignored repeatedly. Letters go unanswered. Phone calls are never returned. Eventually, certified letters implying legal action get VERBALLY answered claiming: “The loan was forgiven verbally by the senior, in a private conversation with the local Circuit Overseer”-(despite the senior JW suffering from cognitive decline). Of course, requestors are reminded of the consequences of involving court action against “the brothers”.
In our personal situation, after consulting with two law firms, our attorneys explained the multiple hurdles in pursuing Watchtower, even though the injured senior was cognitively impaired, AT THE TIME and had already given her child power of attorney. The professional legal opinion? Statute of limitation issues, out of state representation against a billion dollar corporation, and need to put an impaired Senior on the witness stand, made recovery expensive and unlikely, since Watchtower had already showed zero compassion or conscience for the elderly JW widow in question. What was Watchtowers official verbal phone response? : "Put her on Welfare".
Why would an aged Jehovah’s Witness “loan” Watchtower their retirement Next Egg? The NYT story explains: Quote: “For many people, what is going on is they are looking to fulfill an unmet need for companionship, an unmet need for financial security, an unmet need for a purpose,” said Marti DeLiema, an interdisciplinary gerontologist and assistant professor at the University of Minnesota’s School of Social Work, who researches financial fraud and exploitation.
Victims are often caught up in fantasies created by perpetrators, isolating them from their real-life existence and families.”…… .” Older people may also be more susceptible to the mind games that scammers are so adept at playing — using fear, creating a sense of urgency or even stirring up excitement over the prospects of a new romance or investment opportunity.( Or Paradise earth?)
The goal is to tip victims into a heightened state of emotion where they are no longer thinking rationally but reacting to those appeals, researchers at the Stanford Center on Longevity, the FINRA Investor Education Foundation and the AARP Fraud Watch Network found.
“They are looking for the victim’s emotional Achilles’ heel,” said Doug Shadel, managing director for Fraud Prevention Strategies, a consulting firm in Seattle, and a former state director for AARP Washington.”

BABYLON THE GREAT IS NOT FALLING ANYMORE? (NEW LIGHT FROM THE ANNUAL MEETING)
by raymond frantz inhttps://youtu.be/rsbfa_7lqv4?si=muuxmgtll1n1ifad.
the watchtower’s babylon the great: a shrinking reality?.
so this latest annual meeting introduced a new idea about babylon the great, and here is the part from geoffrey jackson's talk we real need to dig in and consider it's ramifications..... so you’ve got to hand it to them; they know how to keep things interesting with their ever-evolving interpretations and, of course, those classic "adjustments" in understanding.

What made you look behind the jw curtain?
by Touchofgrey ini was listening to a lunchtime call in radio show about jws and the personal experiences of being disfellowshiped, and a former elder called in saying he was disfellowshiped for asking about jws and their involvement in the un in the 1990s ,and he just said look it up.. thinking that it was a made up lie ,so i looked it up and it was true even a letter confirming it from the un itself and that led me here and to jwfacts and further research into the history and teachings of jw and walked out the door about 5 years ago.

One issue? NO, it was the accumulation of the problems.
" By their fruits, you shall know them..."
A 3rd generation JW, I was at Bethel in 1975. It wasn't just the accumulation of failed prophecies; it was the lack of Christian qualities and bald-faced lies at HEADQUARTERS. The two faced abuse of the rank and file, telling them, "The end is any day now," while buying and selling real estate and making long-term plans. Letting them believe they had "angelic protection" in "the Lord's work" and actively hiding the dangers sisters were exposed to in field service (rapes and kidnappings). The study and keeping of Witchcraft books in the Bethel Library. Rampant fornication and Homosexuality AT BETHEL. And the hiding of unqualified (some serial fornicators) men being appointed to positions of power as Elders and Governing Body positions. Zero evidence of Holy Spirit.
At first I chalked it up to "imperfect men", but after the 2000s it was obvious NOT ONE WATCHTOWER PROPHECY HAD EVER COME TRUE. It became obvious CHILD MOLESTERS were actively hid. And the flock was regularly lied to at every convention about the accounts report.
As an Elder, getting "HEAT" from Having to take a stand against hiding a notorious child molester from being appointed (and having to go to the police), having to write letters to the service desk and GB members I knew PERSONALLY about OBVIOUS SLAM DUNK CRIMES, like Domestic violence, child molesting, convention faked accounts, and financial abuse of seniors, was the last straw. Like my little overloaded Donkey photo...it became obvious there was nothing "Godly about the Watchtower and the Governing Body" and their LIES ie: "Theocratic Strategies". Satan is the "father of the lie"...there is nothing Christian about "Theocratic Strategy".
The fruits were rotten, even illiterate felons in prison know Child molesters are trash. It wasn't 607, 1975, or some obscure theological difference, it was simple basic moral ROT, from the top... down....and I no longer could stomach being any part of it.

Welcome to the group Free at Last!
Lots of good suggestions here. Part of leaving Watchtower is doing "the work". That includes a little homework like reading "Crisis of Conscious" and something like JWFacts.com, and "Combating Cult Mind Control".
Free classes at the local Community College are a great way to meet people, expand your knowledge base, gain college credits, and improve your job prospects.
Explore hobby groups. Fishing, Cooking, Painting, Art, Lapidary, Audubon, Sierra Club, Gyms, Food Banks, Acting, Singing, Chamber of Commerce, Firewise, Watersheds, APCA, Shelters, etc.
Reach out to old JW friends on Face Book who moved away or have become "inactive", many of them have probably left Watchtower secretly. :)
We look forward to your future posts about your new life!!

The World Today
by peacefulpete ini've been meaning to share some recent experiences that defy the usual tropes about the 'world gone to hell' or 'people now days".. as some of you may remember i was seriously ill for a while and had to close my business and shop.
now, as it seems i have beaten it, i put up a sign again advertising that in a limited way i'm back.. what amazes me is how many times over the past 2 years customers and even competition have written and called to express their concern and best wishes.
just last week i had a personal visit of someone who i thought of as a rival, come in and shake my hand sincerely happy to see me up and around.
