Shunned by Family
by happyagain inso here's a question, where does the bible say god wants you to completely disown a family member for chosing to leave the congregation?
is that the god we have been taught to know?
how can they go from door to door trying to save strangers, when infact they don't even talk to there own family?

Do you think some people are better off with the borg?
by new light ini work with someone who is df'ed, actually my cousin.
he is trying to get reinstated.
we got into a semi-heated discussion and i gave him a lot of my anti-wt viewpoints, trying to get him to think for himself.

I think the answer is yes, reason with him but don't get heated up about it and if he gets in a heat drop it until another time. Anger shuts the mind even more.
I tend to agree with you on this point; Those that were/are living very self-destructive lifestyles are restrained. Yet, the controlling nature of the GB and their organization is also self-destructive to the individual just in a lesser way. Having said that, I'd like to see the numbers on witness suicides world wide!
Lady Lee,
"The little survey I put up yesterday was very enlightening because those who responded were thinkers and found living inside a box very constraining."
I'm pleased to say I haven't yet read any post on this site that I believe wasn't from a thinking person.

Study gone bad
by galaxy7 ini had my bible study today, it was about demons, anyway the sister said that those shows on tv.
against jws are instigated by demons.. i told her about silent lambs and that it was true and had nothing to do with demons.
unless it was the molesting demon elders she was refering to.

"...Are they afraid that if they do, it will be determined that the accounts are true? Are they afraid of more negative publicity? If it is The Truth?, why are they so afraid of totally open and public scrutiny?"
Afraid of all the money they'd lose in the lawsuits to follow most likely. Look at the beating the Catholic Church is taking!

I'm new here but I'd thought I'd say 'Hello.'
I've been Blue Collar for 28 years but you don't get rich. Accounting is a good field, most everybody needs them. Living at home isn't so bad, it's only temporary. I'm impressed at your resolve and discipline I'm sure you'll get there. I like this old saying; 'A cinch by the inch, hard by the yard.'Be careful of burnout.

Question about Judical committees
by scrubmaster inif a committed has been formed for an allegation of serious sin and the person does not agree with the charge is there anything the person can do to let the elders now they do not agree with the charge and if the person is not happy with the three elders choosen for the committee is there anything that can be done before the first meeting.
also a side point, this same person presented evidence of their scriptural freedom just like the society's said is required, the elders had to deliberate over this information even though it was present just as the society stated, my friend went ahead and got married and now all of a sudden the previous information was put on the back burner and my wife and friend now face a judical committee for adultery.
is this the way elders all ways handle cases, they throw out any information which made be in the person's favor and go right for what can be found written in black and white so they do not have to think?

Maverick makes good points.
In my divorce case, the leader of the committee questioned my wife's termination of the marriage
(I was the perp.) He thought the language she used wasn't specific enough, I knew it was and stood my ground (I wanted out). The GB and their Elders set themselves up as the 'Grand Determinators' of what is true, morally right and correct. The correctness of the marriage between your two friends is between them and God. If they were convinced the woman was free to marry then they were right to pursue it and not wait on pre-approval from anyone.

coming back as a jw
by nana ini've fallen for a man who is a jw and i haven't been one in years .i really don't know what to do or how the church will react to me being a divorce woman and all.
the problem is my oldest son i don't how he would handle the change.

Hello nana,
I have found that true love re-occurs through out our lives, that there is no love so special that cannot be found in time with another. I would ask you to reflect on your personal experience with the Witnesses and ask yourself 'is it really worth it?' The complete unquestioning surrender of self to the will and views of GB is what's waiting for you. Is that what you want? Will you really be happier with that kind of life?

I have a bone to pick with society...Re: MEN and KIDS
by flower inwhy is it that if a man passes by at the mall or grocery store toting a baby or little kids along gets all kinds of admiring looks from strangers?
especially if he puts the kid in one of those baby pouch thingys....geez he may as well be a god.
if he has toddlers and they are acting up its not his fault hes doing the best he can after all.

Hi Flower,
I think it's about expectations, women are and men aren't supposed to be 'good' at those things. I think since women are 'expected' to be better the standard is higher for them. A double standard?
I guess, until the perception of what male and female roles/skills are improve. -

The dubs at "Witness World" are discussing UN involvement!!!!!
by somebodylovesme ini am a lurker on the "witness world" witnesses-only website.
they are having a discussion because someone during door-to-door service confronted them with the un letter.
they are all saying that it is "obviously made up"... but the person is planning on writing to the society to ask.

Thanks somebodylovesme for posting the JW's site posts. They are both sickening and funny with their mental gymnastics to 'make' the GB right no matter what.
drwtsn...You know any Witness who shows even the slightest questioning no matter how gently posed will be marked an apostate.

"Foreward" to "Captives of a Concept"
by Cameron inforeword
according to the annual report for the year 2003 in the january 1, 2004 watchtower, 6.5 million jehovah?s witnesses spent about 1.2 billion hours distributing hundreds of millions of pieces of literature while going door-to-door and conducting 5.7 million bible studies in 235 lands.
all that activity resulted in 16 million people attending their annual "memorial of christ?s death.

The greatest crime the GB has committed against the congregation has been their constant equating of obedience to them with obedience to God. Their speech consistently takes power away from the individual and gives it to them.
