Seems to be the more developed countries with stats like that. I guess if you're dirt poor in a third world country with no other options the "truth" probably sounds a lot better than it does here.

Religion after the WBTS
by Mysterious in.
just curious who went on to associated themselves with another religion after leaving the watchtower and whether you still follow the bible or not.
i haven't really decided what i believe but i'll consider almost anything not witness related.

I'd heard about some of those but never seen them for myself before. It certainly does make one question anything they put into print as the truth of the day. A good point to raise with people who seem to think that the very fact something is in the magazines advances it beyond modern science, thought, and reason.

Sadly, most JW's are very intimidated by the elders. And the reason is because they think if they disrespect the elders, they are disrespecting Jehovah God....MIND CONTROL at its best.
Well I'm sure this bible passage brought out in the watchtower really didnt help matters:
And he proceeded to go up from there to Bethel. As he was going up on the way, there were small boys that came out from the city and began to jeer him and that kept saying to him: "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!" Finally he turned behind him and saw them and called down evil upon them in the name of Jehovah. Then two she-bears came out from the woods and went tearing to pieces forty-two children of their number. 2 Ki. 2:23, 24.
That would scare anyone about bad mouthing elders, especially kids!

Anyone interested in some old WT books / publications?
by YellowLab ini was cleaning my basement the other day and came across a box of old wt books and publications i stowed away after i did the "fade".
i wasn't sure if i should toss them, use them for fireplace kindling, sell them on ebay, or see if anyone here would be interested in them.
i haven't gotten through the entire box yet, so i don't have a fully comprehensive list, but here are some to name a few:.

BTW, it is possible to tell an elder off respectfully, without swear words and raising your voice. Jesus told off the Pharisees using the scriptures. They said he was wrong, just wrong for pointing our their errors.
That's the best way to do it imo. If they treat you more disrespectfully in return it only proves your point all the more so. I've always thought running intellectual circles around someone was the best way to go about it.

but then, do you really want others to know that you were a JW?
Good point I'm sure there's some way they could still hold it against us, and who could blame them after we've seen what the WTBS can do!

My story - still stuck 'in'
by Mysterious ini was raised as a loyal dub since birth, taught the religion by my mother who is a strong supporter of the wts.
my father had been inactive since before i was born, actually he's the one who found this site first.
*waves at poztate* i never questioned anything i was taught and i memorized by rote what to say to anyone who asked me any question.

I had goosebumps the entire time I read your story, Mysterious. Flashback twenty-five years, and it's my story.
I've always found it amazing when I read stories that have commonality with mine. It's one of the things that was instrumental in helpingm e to figure everything out. I guess the experience is remarkably similar for a lot of people. The only problem I ever had with those stories is those people never had a JW background and could never really understand the whole shunning thing. It's nice to find people here who have the whole package.
