  Larc,

  For instance, just last night I was activating a cell phone, and despite that the literature with the phone said I could use my SSN or driver's license number, they would not activate without my SSN. They said they needed it to run a credit check before activating a service plan. I went through 3 layers of people before I gave in. They said my only option was to go in person to a service center and provide it there rather than give it over the phone. I needed the phone activated right away so that wasn't an option. Do you know anyway around situations like this?

  Thanks, I think I will convert to doing that. Can you think of any instances where companies could legitimately need it, say for credit checks?

  It amazes me how often social security numbers are required and willfully provided. I find myself giving out my SSN despite not receiving an explanation of why they need it ("That's how we keep track of your account.") Because it has become a standard way of identifying people, I'm at a loss at what to do. Am I being over paranoid in supplying my SSN to companies for verification, even though they don't really need it?

  She probably didn't know it was a hoax as these emails get passed around the internet a lot. People's first inclination is to believe something like this, after all why on earth would anyone make a hoax about this (it is baffling.)

  .......to a jw child molestation victim that has all the names and times.......and stuff about how the elders told you that you don't have 2 witnesses...........did they make you read 1 tim 5:19 to them,... out loud?

  1 tim 5:19 do not admit an accusation against an older man.....except only on the evidence of 2 or 3 "witnesses".......20.

  Top STUPID criticisms of the WTS

  there are certainly enough valid criticisms of the wts and the jw religion, but a significant number of often-repeated criticisms of the religion are, imnsho, just ludicruous and serves to take attention away from the real issues.

  significant problems with the wts includes, but are not limited to, the shunning policy, the blood issue and of course the corporate policy of hiding child molestors.. here is a list of criticisms of the wts that i find particularly annoying to see:.

  russell was a freemason (or, even worse, the wts is part of some other large-scale conspiracy like the illuminati).

  I see, that makes sense. I've heard the term functional definition but had always assumed it meant something along the lines of "real" definition. Thanks for clarifying that. I agree with everything you posted, except for...

  it's not like you would find homeless people hangin' around our kh.
